Reattaching a Rock Guard

When we left the Canopener earlier this month, one of the rock guards fell off of our 1984 Excella. It would still be on the side of the road if a very nice lady hadn't waved us down to tell us something fell off of our unit. When we pulled into a parking lot to determine what we had lost, another very nice lady pulled in behind us and asked if we lost a big black thing off of our trailer. At that time, we realized it was the rock guard! The lady then offered to go back and get it for us. WOW! That was certainly easier than turning the AS around to go back, so we took her up on it! So, now we have the rock guard, but aren't sure how to reattach it. Is this a reasonable DIY project? We've never worked with rivets and don't have the necessary tools (or rivets). Any advice?

I installed them on our trailer and it wasn't very difficult. You will most likely need to drill the holes a bit larger and install larger rivets with sealer underneath to make sure it doesn't leak.

Good luck.

Hire It Done

By your question, and by your description of your capabilities, I believe you would be happier if you had it reinstalled by a competent technician.
We should never use our Airstreams as training aids for for a task we never intend to do again.
I suggest you redirect this thread toward finding the best technician in your area.

Harry found out that his secretary's husband has had experience with rivets. He came over tonight and had it repaired in about 15 minutes.
