Which vehicle to choose

I have a 2018 Silverado LT crew cab 4x4. It is a 5.3 liter gas /6 speed trans. Payload per door sticker is 2040lbs. I pull a 28 ft international rb that has a loaded tongue weight of 1160 lbs. Mileage on the flats is 12.5 and in the mountains 10.5 to 11. I can maintain 50 to 55 mph on the steeper grades and keep the rpms manageable. There are some 1500s out there if you take some time to look for them. I searched for 6 months and finally found this one 75 miles from home. Best of luck with whatever you choose. Kevin

In have a 27ft international Sterling, sleeping quarters in front. We were towing it with a QX80 and were pushing the limit. I just received my 2011, suburban 2500 with a 6.6 Duramax Diesel engine in it. Had it put together by Duramax Specialties in Atlanta. Just came back from a 2500 mile trip up the east coast to Shenandoah National park and stopped in at the Alumalina Rally. The truck pulled great and averaged 12.6 mpg. Yeah I know diesel is more expensive, but worth the extra umph.

I'm still happy with the 2018 Nissan Titan XD Diesel Platinum Series crew cab for towing the 1999 AS Safari 25C. I'd say more, but I'm not used to typing one-handed - I broke a left thumb. I wanted a diesel, and this one came TOTALLY rigged for trailer towing from the factory.

As previously mentioned, a heavy duty payload pkg f150 should do well. My Xlt has a payload just shy of 2500. Some fully loaded 3/4 tons don't have that, especially if it has a diesel engine.

All those trucks are fantastic. I started with a GMC Sierra 1500 gas and was towing my 27 foot Globetrotter and it worked OK but you could really feel the trailer back there. I traded in the globetrotter for a 30 foot Classic and the Sierra 1500 wasn't cutting it anymore.

I was convinced that I needed to stay with a gas Sierra 2500 but once I drove the diesel I was hooked. We town the Classic all over the place and you would not even know it was back there. We got back from the mountains today and NO issues thought the mountain passes.

I fought and fought and fought going diesel and now that I took the plunge I will never go back.

I have friend that have the Ford and Ram and they love them as well (they are diesel too)

Only were more people on this forum thinking and acting like this! I am almost astonished that so many are choosing borderline-suitable tow vehicles.

I will not any specific brand as I am in Australia and thus less aware on that available. Ideally, however. choose one, that when fully laden is much the same weight as the fully laden trailer. When towing load that tow vehicle to its specified maximum - use sandbags if necessary. Increase it rear tyre pressures by 7-10 psi.

Absolutely true. I’ve seen payload stickers on diesel F250’s in the 2200lb range. A gas F250 would be closer to 3000 lb payload.

That’s why I went with an F350 when we decided to go diesel. 3400 lb payload and tows like a champ.
