Which campground to choose in Myrtle Beach ?

We are headed to Myrtle Beach at the end of April and it looks like there are a lot of choices when it comes to campgrounds and I am not sure where to stay. First and and foremost it must be very dog friendly ( our Chesapeake loves the beach) also would like good biking, fishing, and a nice pool. Any suggestions for us.

Smile Good luck finding a campground...seems to be lotsa choices

Hey 63 air,
We're heading thata way but later in the summer. We took a chance on the forum campground review of Huntington Beach State Park at Murrels Inlet (no pool I could find on website) just south of Myrtle. A cousin recommended Myrtle Beach Travel Park to us (pool, gated, pets ok on leash), but it looks too much like a parking lot for me--I like a little elbow room and lotsa scenery. I've heard great things about Myrtle Beach State Park, but again I'm not sure if the state parks have pools so...Good luck! Hey if you feel like it post a review of your experience. Happy campin!

Steph,
Myrtle Beach State Park has/had a pool, not sure if it still in use or not. The last time we were down there it was closed because of a shortage of life guards. It is a decent park to camp in, close to a lot of things, and has more elbow room than a lot of the commercial parks. But it is in the landing pattern for the local airport. Our personal favorite is Ocean Lakes it is your typical large RV park, but is better than most. IIRC they have around 900 spaces, plus a bunch of permanent ones too. They have been in the process of upgrading the bath houses and they are nice.

We stayed at Lakewood Camping Resort last fall, and it was a pretty good experience. Typically, we prefer smaller, more secluded camping, but our daughter had stayed there with friends and highly recommended it. (Bear in mind, she was a teenager.)

Despite it's size (approx. 175 acres, 1900 sites), and the fact that it was Bike Week, it was quiet and very clean. It has some ocean frontage, a very well stocked camp store, 3 or 4 small stocked fishing ponds, indoor and outdoor pools, and a 500 seat theater overlooking the ocean where, in the summer, they have live performances. It's within a few miles of downtown Myrtle Beach, so like everything else in the area, it's rather touristy. It has a nice website, but for some reason, I couldn't seem to access it.

I will also second the nomination of Myrtle Beach Travel Park...that is another of our favorites You can never have too many There is another one that the WBCCI units use and I can never remember the name of it...but it is new and in Longs, SC just outside of MYR and it has some sites with hot tubs...on the site! Talk about your RESORT

If you select a campground along highway 17 business, make sure harley week is not the same time. They will be there street racing until 3:00am the week end before, the week of, and the week end after.

Made the mistake of being there at the same time about 5 years ago.

Ocean Lakes, Pirate land, Myrtle Beach State park, or Huntington Beach were nice campgrounds. I don't think the pool at Myrtle opens until June.

Smile With Region 3 Rally units

Ocean Lakes campground is the site for the Region 3 WBCCI rally , April 26 to 30. This should bring better than 200 Airstreams to one place.

I vote for Myrtle Beach Travel Park. 10 yrs there. Should try others but we are very satisfied...more roomy than website indicates. Each site has a handy small pavilion and all facilities are immaculate. Ocean front @North Myrtle. Not so zoo-like area. Where ever...enjoy!
