I would like to hear about first hand experience with the GMC 2020 multi pro tailgate:

Useful new design or silly gimmick?
Applicability when towing?
Weather tightness?

I have a 2020 GMC 2500 Denali Duramax with the tailgate.
The truck is brand new so my observations are still raw.
I thought it was a gimmicky kind of thing when I first saw it.
Now, I am beginning to understand some of the benefits.
You can get closer to the bed when lifting heavy items.
The step is actually very nice.
The fact that you can ignore the split makes it no big deal if that’s what you desire.
I’d say that it makes more sense than I initially thought.
You do have to remember not to open the upper panel when a hitch is in the receiver but that’s just fine...

When I first got the truck, I was neutral to slightly cynical about the MultiPro tailgate. 8500 miles later (including 7000 with the Airstream behind me), I can say this is a really useful feature. It's great for being able to get closer to the bed to load/unload heavy items, and the step makes it really easy to get in/out. Since I mount 4 bicycles on top of my bedcover, the step makes it possible for me to safely get all the bikes on top of my bed with no assistance. I also have the bluetooth speaker option in the tailgate. While audiophiles might deride the sound, we find it perfectly adequate for listening to music outside at the campground.

I have a weather-tight bed cover. The only water that gets into my bed comes through the sides of the tailgate (not the mini-gate that also drops down), but this only happens once in a great while when I'm running the truck through the carwash. To be honest, I got more water through the tailgate on my 2015 GMC. Last week, I was towing through Tennessee during a heavy thunderstorm. There was nary a drop of water in the back when we set up camp for the evening.

Overall, I'm impressed with the utility and simplicity of the design. I use these features much more frequently than I would have imagined.

When you are ordering or finding on a lot make sure you have the MaxTow. Bigger payload and 3.42 instead of 3.23 rear gears.
The Denali is not available with the max tow in the GMC and neither is the High Country in the Silverado. And watch all the other options like sunroof that take away from payload. Nice thing about GM is they leave you a nice little note inside the driver's door which is vehicle specific and tells you your payload and towing numbers.

No, it is the 5.4 8 speed with the full tow package.

I have owned a 2020 GMC Sierra HD2500 AT4 for a year now. Very satisfied. I have installed a Suspension Maxx Stage 2 leveling kit with adjustable torsion keys, Billstein 5100 shocks and excellent SM upper control arms. Changed tires from stock Wranglers to 35x12.5r20 Nitto Ridgegrabblers. Smooth as silk with the Allison 10 speed. Quality is outstanding and heads-up display a game changer. Excellent AC, heated/vented seats and plenty of room make it a road warrior. I believe it is a great balance of power, comfort, reliability and features. Highly recommended.
