RV Antifreeze

Does it have an expiration date. I have several gallons of Walmart pink probably 2016-17. See pic. Would it still be good to use?Click image for larger version

One Opinion - Throw it away

It appears to be the kind that contains alcohol.
Get the alcohol free kind and throw that stuff away.
Alcohol can be tuff on seals in your plumbing.
Not worth the savings in relative price between alcohol and alcohol free kind.

Web opinions tend to vary but, as you would expect, posters are sure their particular insight rules. Most sources I learned from proclaim a sealed bottle lasts anywhere from 5 years to indefinite. The common insight is it's shelve life lasts until exposed to oxygen when the seal is broken and then the clock runs for 3 to 5 years after that date as a minimum. If it does degrade, I would believe the infrequent and rather short dips below freezing in Alabama means you are going to be safe this winter if you choose to break open the pictured bottles.

This link is a typical description:
https://www.rvandplaya.com/rv-antifr...of-antifreeze/

FYI, SuperTech is manufactured by the Warren Oil Company and is an American company manufacturing a range of automotive, marine, and RV products since 1976. The company was independent until 2016 when it was bought by a North Carolina holding company named Trail Creek Investments. The ingredients sheet does not list alcohol.

Isn't the first ingredient on the bottle's label ethyl alcohol?

Read the Material Data Safety Sheet for SUPERTECH (the product pictured by the original poster) at this link which lists Propylene Glycol and Dipotassium Phosphate as the ingredients.

DeltaRon - What are the ingredients

DeltaRon
The ingredients seems to show Ethyl Al*****
It gets too hard to read in the photo.

This MSDS for Super Tech -50 RV and Marine Antifreeze does list Ethanol, but is dated 2012 so I am not sure how trustworthy it is.

https://americanamb.com/wp-content/u...Antifreeze.pdf

But then again there are other data sheets for Super Tech RV and Marine Antifreeze appear to be dated 2003, So back to the same question: What does his bottle show.

Bottom line: Back to Opinion Only: If it is ethyl alcohol do not use it.. The stuff costs so little money for the non-ethanol based, why risk potential damage to the seals from the alcohol.

If other opinions are the risks from alcohol are overstated, then use it.

My posts are to just point out to all the readers that are unaware of the risks to alcohol based RV antifreezes to think twice before buying the cheap stuff.

If DeltaRon's does not have alcohol, then great......Back to his original question, Is it still safe to use after 5 -6 years.....I am only pointing out the risk of alcohol, not trying to make a judgement on the shelf life.

On the question of shelf life: Is the risk of potential really expensive damage worth the savings in a few dollars a bottle of new anti-freeze......But the reality is......Your stuff is probably still fine anyway....Particularly for an area with mild winters. "Do you feel Lucky"

I did read the MSDS for Super Tech - the one you linked to showing Fox Packaging as the manufacturer as well as the other one out there showing Splash as the manufacturer. One shows alcohol and one does not, so this is not definitive.

Fox Packaging does not appear to have a website so it is not possible to easily check if they are the current manufacturer of this product. Splash does have a website, but it doesn't show this product. Possibly it is being manufactured by them as a private-label product being sold at Walmart, possibly another company is making Walmart's product.

Looking at the current packaging showing on the Walmart website, denatured ethanol is listed as an ingredient. At the moment is appears that Walmart is the retail outlet for Super Tech RV Antifreeze, along with a few secondary outlets such as eBay sellers.

My conclusion? We don't know which MSDS is the correct one. The label in the OP's photo certainly appears to show ethyl alcohol as an ingredient, so it's quite possible that the MSDS you've found is not the correct one for this product. Could also be an older version of the product in the OP's photo.

Bottom line? If the bottle shows alcohol on the label then it likely contains alcohol.
