bottle jack recommendation

My wife and I own a 2022 19-foot CB Airstream Bambi. I'm looking for a recommendation for a bottle jack for use on jacking up the trailer to remove wheels and change tires. Just purchased a 6-ton rated Craftsman Bottle Jack that was leaking in its box and plan on returning. Any recommendations? Anthony P

Well bottle jacks are something I know a thing or two about. For a long time I resisted buying imported ones and preferred US quality like Walker but that is just about impossible now days unless you find a good old US made one at a garage sale. There are a few new US made ones out there if you want to spend $200 or $300, but to be honest I am skeptical as to their quality, they may be no better than Harbor Freight ones. In my collection I have several Harbor Freight ones and they have held up surprisingly well, no leaks either. You can replace a HF jack many times for the price of one of those $300 ones but so far I haven't had to. I have 2 of their floor jacks as well, neither one leaks but my US made $800 OTC floor jack always leaked, even after a rebuild by a shop. I finally gave it away because I don't like leaky things in my shop. I also have a big HF air over hydraulic jack, again, works great and no leaks.
Pretty much any brand you pick that is in the lower dollar range, even if it is an American name, will be made in China. Harbor Freight products have been improving and many of their products are now quite good quality. It's also easy to resolve in the event that you do get something bad out of the box, or within the standard warranty period. Even some of the tire shops are using HF floor jacks.

I found one on Amazon that combines the bottle jack with a jack stand. This eliminates the need to find a separate place to position the jack and the jack stand. I've used these to hold up the trailer while changing axles, and right now a pair of them is in place relieving some of the weight on my tires for winter storage.
