Want to upgrade TVs - 2021 Globetrotter 27 FB
Hi everyone. First post and soon to be a newbie with an Airstream (it arrives in early November). I noticed the TVs that are included are pretty tiny and low spec. Any recommendations on what's the best TVs we can put in our living area and bedroom area without changing out mounts, wires, etc.
I figure a 32" is the largest in the living room, not so sure about the bedroom. I called Airstream and they didn't have 2021 specs to access yet, but going by the 2020 Globetrotter 27 FB I was told the width of the wall (including the tapering) was 28.51" in the living area and 23.45" in the bedroom. I was also told the walls are hand cut so the tapering isn't an exact size on each panel... so I wasn't sure how many inches to subtract off those numbers to ensure the TVs don't overlap any of the tapering?
Is it just as simple as finding a TV I like and ensuring they aren't wider than above, or is there more to it?
Thanks!
-Keith

The "tiny and low spec" televisions are the largest that can fit in the locations available. You can maybe find one an inch or so bigger, but more than that won't fit without sticking out into travel areas in the trailer.

It really isn't so simple. Over the years, AS has provided different connections to the TV from the audio system, DVD player, and antenna. I couldn't tell you what you are getting, but I suggest you wait, look at what you have, then make sure you get TV's that have the back connections you need or want. For example, on my older AS, the audio out was done by tapping into the speaker wires( boo, hiss) and the TV had no audio out or optical connection for a sound bar(which I added). If your trailer does not have articulating mounts, you will need to be particularly careful about width measurements.

I went to a 32" Visio. It sticks out about 1 or 2 inches. Has all the connections. No need to modify anything. Full HD 1080P. Vizio D-Series. Purchased at Costco about $170. Vastly superior picture.

Surprised
I was totally thinking Tow Vehicle from the start of this. When you mentioned putting it in your living space, I thought you were nuts
I guess I’m the nut

Television Upgrade
We just installed a new 32” Samsung “smart” TV in our 28’ International (above the dinette). Works great and fits perfectly. It was seamless swap out and only protrudes slightly into the aisle way. The mount is same. Highly recommend.
Model is N5300.

I'm in the same situation with our 19CB Tommy Bahama.... seems like 32" max. I'm trying to decide on a $300, 28" 4k monitor or the $170 - 32" Vizio-D or go with the Samsung "the Frame" both of these are 1080p, however the Samsung has HDR (@ $400 more).
Will need to check out the monitor with my Roku.... plus add a soundbar.

I was thinking the same thing! Perhaps I'm the nut. We've never turned our TV's (televisions) on except at delivery to ensure they worked. The other TV (tow vehicle), we use all the time...

Thanks everyone! I figured the sub area I posted in would give some context to TV
The Frame looks appealing to me aesthetically, but only if we can center it on the wall.

Nice upgrade! Do you know is it possible to center the TV with the couch cushion (more to the left) so it wouldn’t jut out into the aisle? Personal preference but curious... thank you!

Can you get a different mount that will allow you to place the tv in portrait position when not and use. When ready to use position it in landscape position. That would allow a much bigger tv without worrying about it extruding into hallway

TV Upgrade and Mount
On our 28’ International the mount is very simple. One 1/4” retainer nut that holds the mounting bracket down. Loosen that and the retainer moves and the TV simply lifts straight up.
Regarding repositioning the bracket to center - it looks very doable - just understand what’s behind the mount. For us it’s the LAV and to my knowledgeable there’s nothing else in that potential mounting location. Hope this helps.

I like Seahawks football on a Sunday afternoon --- preferably on widescreen. So I got a rotatable TV mount and substituted it for the one AS supplied, and then added a 40" Samsung to the mount. TV looks great in horizontal position, and rotated 90 degrees to the vertical, the TV does not stick out in the aisle. See attached photos.
The TV that was there is substituted for the TV in the bedroom, and the TV that was in the bedroom, I sold on Craigslist.

+1 on the Samsung N5300 in 27’ GT
We have a 27’ GT and upgraded to the same Samsung model as Orondo. See the thread here, Post #14.
It’s a clean installation and nice Smart TV.

This was a great replacement for the original Samsung 26" in our 27FB International:

We have the same model from Samsung and it sits on the corner entertainment unit of our 2003 Safari (we just put back in box when traveling), until I figure out how to remove the fridge to bolt to wall.

Yes you can. We bought ours on Amazon- articulating TV mount, exact same mount as AS installed in the bedroom, and I did the install myself. Works for us.
