Finally fed up with slow DVD/BluRay Player
The Factory DVD/BluRay player has finally pissed me off enough it is time for a replacement. The embedded apps (Netflix, etc.), along with overall navigation, is so friggin' SLOW!!! Not to mention that the apps crash a lot.
Anyone have recommendation for a replacement?
If I can avoid any major modifications (e.g., a new box since it is only 13"x3 1/4").

Have you hooked up to the internet (with the player) and updated the firmware? That can make a huge difference.

Firestick is much simpler. Just plug it in. AppleTV, Roku, etc are also great alternatives.
I have both AppleTV and FireStick.

Replaced the Samsung DVD player with a LG that has built in wifi (with netflix, etc.) and fits the same hole. Also replaced the original Clarion radio with an upgraded model with easier to operate controls. Uses the same wiring harness, so it was easy to swap out and sell the old one here on AS classifieds. Not a high end upgrade, but good enough for camping!

We’ve had a much more satisfying life downloading content from Netflix or your favorite service when we are in town and have WiFi. We just get a iPhone with bigger storage than we normally would. We also have an Apple TV when we have a good enough network connection.
Taking out the BlueRay will give you a good chunk of storage back.

Thanks DaveP.
Yes I have the latest firmware in the unit. Even while parked in my driveway, linked to my home network, the slowness of the application interface is painful. Even with a 250Mbps internet service, I get drop-outs.
I'll try sniffing the network traffic to see if I can spot any network communication timeouts, etc.
I'm hoping for some recommendations of something with a bit more horsepower with embedded apps.

Sorry it didn't help.
We have a newish Samsung Blue Ray DVD player and we used it in our bedroom last winter and it worked fine. They are a bit more clunky, though, than AppleTV or Firestick, but we use it mostly to watch movies in the trailer. And, we also use PlayOn (.com) to record movies from our cable to a desktop computer and transfer them to memory sticks. Memory sticks use less power than the Blue Ray players when plugged into the back of our (new) Samsung TVs we got last year.
We really never camp anywhere that has internet service anyway (unless we get 4G service on our iPhones), so it works well for us.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone
All decent suggestions. Thanks for the help.
I have a PlayStation 3 sitting around (empty nest for some time now) so I'll give that a try. Hopefully, I still have the remote for it. Not really a fan of using the game controller, nor is my wife.
My only concern is adding a significant amount of power drain as compared to a BluRay replacement. But hey, downloading movies to the PS3 should be a breeze.
Here is what I have connected to the HDMI switch:
- ZBook 15 G3 Laptop & Docking station (Linux Mint 19)
- Chromecast
- Samsung BluRay (PS3 will replace it)
- ** open **
RV WiFi Setup
- Peplink - Pepwave MAX-BR1-LTE-US-T - Google fi Data-only SIM
[**] Connected to 12V power. Draws less without the use of 110 wart
[**] Has WiFi WAN capability to connect to RV park WiFi - I like keeping my devices secure from probing eyes
[**] This also seconds as an RV GPS tracker
This router, I have found, is a really good performer even over LTE. Not a salesperson for this by the way. Having gone through many different services & solutions, I found this to work best for me and keep by devices behind a firewall.

What brand and model did you replace the Clarion with? I would do it in a minute if I was sure the wiring harness was the same! I replaced the DVD player almost immediately with an LG.
Thanks!

We had an issue with the HDMI cable on ours in our new International. Airstream Adventures NW fixed it. One of the things that I do not like about this Samsung model is there are no lights on it to indicate that it's on!?
By the way, my wife's from Summervilie and says "hi". She always gets excited to see anyone from SC.

Won't see trailer till after Xmas. Will check then and let you know. But I imagine Clarion has probably upgraded their product line since 2015. Perhaps email or call them to find out what might be compatible for plug and play with your unit.

Ok sorry I can’t resist.
I take my fire poker knock the logs a bit and throw another log on the fire.
Back to our regularly scheduled broadcast.

Firestick is what we use. The Samsung disk player included with our 2017 model, we disconnected in place we are using the DishNetwork now and Firestick when we want to stream. I plan on getting an HDMI splitter so I can use both, but I would like to see Airstream replace the Clarion unit with a newer model that is easier to control which includes the DVD player in the head. There is a Jensen model and a Pioneer model that have it all in the head unit now which are pretty interesting...that would free up that shelf for the satellite receiver.

I am contemplating doing the same. Do you mind letting me know how you connected these? I would ideally also like to keep the DVD player, too.
Thanks!

The PS3 has a "dvd" player remote that is nice because it is RF rather than IR so the cabinet can be closed.
Sony PlayStation 3 Blu-ray Disc Remote is what Amazon calls it.
Thanks

I can never get my DVD player to do anything. I can put a DVD in the player tray and turn on the TV. When I try to pick a source on the TV with the remote nothing shows up but 'TV' on the source list. What am I doing wrong? Is there a cable involved?
