Replacement Tail lights

Anybody used these: 1969-74 Airstream Taillight Canister

I'd like to replace my originals while I have the interior removed, and they'll be accessible. The product description doesn't mention it, but I'm wondering if the super-cool 70's-tech fiber-optic tail light indicator system will be able to be preserved? (I really like that feature, and would hate to loose it).
Seems to me you should be able to just drill a hole in the new cans for the fiberoptic thingy to fit into. I haven't looked at it that close, but I recall it looks like its just snugly fit into a rubber grommet in the back of the can.

thoughts?

I am working on a Sovereign right now that is slated to get these. I can tell you when I get done how easy and painless it was. Alternately, I suppose I COULD tell you the truth...

Please do!

Plus, I have Ganglin's super-custom stainless-steel indicator cover installed...(he had some made up a few years ago). better than original!! I'd hate to see that become purely ornamental.

Both of my stop and turn lights work, as well as the indicator system...but the cans are rusty, and the connections can be..."temperamental". One of my reverse lights is kaput, and there's no way its coming out from the outside. going to need high-explosives, I think. I imagine the others will be just as difficult to extract.
