Valterra cap hard to open

I added a Valterra knive style twist on valve to my FC28 as an added "safety feature" for tank dumping. The added valve swivels on the OEM Airstream fitting, making it easy to move the valve to get at both black and gray tank handles. The issue I have is that the Valterra cap is very hard to remove, especially since one hand needs to keep the added valve from swiveling while the other tries to remove the cap. I added vaseline to the seal area to be sure that it wasn't the seal that was keeping the cap from moving. I have a spanner that works for the slinky, but the valterra cap doesn't have the big lugs to grip.

Any suggestions on how to make the cap easier to remove?

Thanks!

Try a set of the little levers Vallteria sells for their fittings. Try a little water pump lubricant from a pool supply store on the offending surfaces.. the levers do work well.

I have a set of those levers and they leave something to be desired. First, they are designed to fit one thing, the hose. Trying to remove the drain cap or latch on a fitting doesn't work so well because the handle hits the trailer before you can hook the tabs in the wrench.
Not sure why you get two wrenches since they don't work like pliers.
I guess you can use one clockwise and the other counterclockwise.
They only fit one way, if you can hook the nub, great.
But they're $10 so why not?
I've switched to the big oil filter wrench + a clear extension so I can "get a grip".

Hmm. I already own the oil filter wrench. Thanks for the suggestion.

Molly's Dad is right. The Camco spanner wrenches only work on the hose, and I never needed one to manage the hoses. I ordered the Valterra cap with the handle, and the Duraflex cap with the ears. See which works better for me. I didn't really want to carry another tool, and have to keep it handy for each time I need to dump.

Thanks for all the responses!

Another benefit to the one with the handle is you don't get your hand wet if there has been any seepage.

The wrench works but it can be messy. I’m always latex-gloved so the messiness is less of an issue if I need to use the wrench.

However, I really like the cap with the handle linked by kittmaster and just ordered one.
