mineral spirits, tar on a '63..
hello all, im new here and working on our first AS ..the po had put a heavy bead of tar over the door eyebrow probably for an awning or something i had some mineral spirits and plastic scrapper is this safe to use on my 63 overlander------the tar has to go i tried a little and it worked but then i thought will it hurt my camper...? so i thought i would ask you guy,s and gals before i proceed,,,,,,thanks in advance for any and all suggestions,,,

It won't hurt the aluminum. Your clear coat is probably gone by now (if there ever was any). I clean my trailer with mineral spirits all the time when I polish.

I've had luck with a heat gun loosening the big pieces, followed by mineral spirits for a final wipe down.

thanks HIHOAgRV,,,i have a heat gun will try that aswell it is about 4ft long x 3 inches wide with some places being an inch or more tall,,,---this morning i can see where the mineral spirits was used but i plan on giving it a polish afterwards anyway,

Home Depot sells a stripper called Ultra Strip. Non toxic green product that I use to remove everything, paint, tar, adhesives. The trick is to let it sit on the surface for several hours then use a plastic scraper to remove the debris. It's a miracle product that I've used dozens of times on multiple trailers with great success.

thanks folks,,,,--i will remember all those things,,---but i have a gallon of spirits as of now,,,but all greatful for your helpfull products,,,----im interested in everything and eager to learn all about the AS as i can and will help anyone i can when i can...
the wife and i have restored several vintaage TT,S but this is are first AS.--and we love it...she has a wonderfull dent free body--even at 52yrs old,,---i wish i still looked as good----lol
