Here's something I've never heard anyone make mention of. Is there a source of used parts out there somewhere? When a trailer of any age is damaged beyond repair and insurance pays off, what becomes of the trailer? Depending on the accident, there may be good usable parts left that could be recycled into some of our older trailers. A/c units, wheels, refrigerators, windows etc. come to mind. Who buys the wrecked trailers? George.
There is Colaw RV Parts & Salvage at Carthage, MO (can be seen and accessed from I-44 @ exit 22. Their toll free number is 877-548-2125 and their website is COLAW RV PARTS & SALVAGE | WE HAVE YOUR PART!.
He has a long line of wrecked Airstreams but parts are removed quickly to put on their shelves. They have the good parts (like windows) just marked on the body for removal. They seldom get in vintage so I don't know just what heaven they go to.
Not exclusively Airstream, but we've bought some parts from Singleton's in Rochester, WA. I just noticed some Airstream parts on the Vintage RV parts page.
Last time I was at Colelaw's (Thursday last week) looking for bits and parts, I didn't find a thing for the Argosy. Spent about an hour poking thru their shelves, couldn't even find so much as a suitable clearance light. No stove parts, not much of anything Airstream at all. I was kind of disappointed that they didn't have more. We didn't look for the "long line of wrecked Airstreams" but didn't see too much of anything in their back row but SOB's. I was also looking for Vulkem but the guy behind the counter didn't know what it was. They did have Sikaflex but that was all, besides a lot of silicone stuff. Their sign says "We have your part" but they sure didn't have mine!
There are quiet a few airstream salvage yards out there. Go to your search engine and type in airstream salvage yards. as said they have other trilers to.
