Seeking Tire Advice for Single Axle (1964 Airstream 4000lbs)

I'd love some tips from Vintage Owners regarding tires.
Which ones to order, which wheel size etc.
Things to note:

• My rig is a 1964 Safari SINGLE AXLE. (it had some old tires on it that were hell to take off, so tire width is a real issue.
• I'm going to have to purchase both wheels and tires
• The weight of my rig (according to the vintage documents found in it) is 4000lbs.

(other notes, As a long time RVer in Some Other Brand , I will not run anything with Carlise or Firestone in the name, and I realize that there are tons of tire threads here and trees in the forest.)

If you had trouble getting the tires off, chances are that you need a new axle, also.

If possible weigh your rig before buying tires.

If you want something that looks stock, I'd suggest this wheel and the accompanying hubcap:

15" Trailer Wheel

Reports on fitment vary from one trailer to the next. You may be able to fit 225/75R15 trailer tires, which would give you the most capacity. If they would rub you may have to use 215/75R15 or 195/70R15 light truck tires.

There are limited selections of brands in these sizes. I have Goodyear Marathons, which have worked out for me, but lots of people hate them.

Cool Jammer! Thanks for the Tip. I think my removal issues were due to the random junk that was on the rig, and the place it was in. Axle has a bit of life left in it. Has anyone put a 16" tire (and wheel) on one of these? Yes, a slender one? I think the (front to back) clearance is fine if I cut away a silly lip on the bottom of the trailer hub that serves 0 purpose? I don't care about the Vintage thing, just function, and quality. I've run Marathons on other non-Airstream rigs in the past, and was happy as well.

While that link doesn't specify P or LT, the description speaks of use in passenger cars and light trucks. If that makes it a "P" rated tire, you would have to derate that 2040 lb capacity by 10% if used on a trailer - bringing its load carrying capacity to 1836 lb per tire.

Its a LRD LT tire. All the info is on that link. I have them on my 30' Avion. They are heavy duty I assure you!
