Best Info to Self-Install Air Conditioner

Morning ya'll. I have two very capable folks to install our penguin air conditioner on our '74 Argosy.

Wonder if you can point me to the right thread with the best description of the install, including a discussion on drain tube vs. pan.

Thanks so much. Sure is going to be hot again this summer at Space Camp without it.

Did you say Space Camp? We go there all the time! We also just installed a dometic Air conditioner. The instructions which came with it were excellent. We bought the additional cup and drain kit.

I did not do mine but have been told by several sources you will need to add some wood framing inside the skin for support

Skatiero, that sounds promising! We did the camp last year without air and it was.....rough! Local shops want $1,500.00 for the unit and install, and maybe we will go ahead and give it a shot.

Here's a few pictures of the braces that I added when I replaced my gasket last spring. Mine did not have the aluminum channel sides when I pulled it. This is not the original AC so I don't know who engineered the installation, but it didn't match Dometic's instructions.

I thought I posted pictures/explanation of this install of a Penguin low profile a/c in my daughter's Minuet once upon a time, but I can't find it. So, here are some pictures of the install:

Many people use wood shims for the a/c braces. I've made up a kit our parts department now sells, consisting of a pair of curved roof bow sections and a pair of Z channel sections. It works better than the wood, and follows the contour of the roof better. It's done by using the bow piece from the wide body trailers, which is not curved as much as the narrow, older trailers, and seems to be a good compromise between the flat a/c base and the curved roof.

Where is this available? Will it work on the 6.0 Minuet?
thanks
