I10 between New Orleans and Houston

FYI, lots of construction but traffic was moving.

Warning there is a short stretch right as you leave Louisiana that like a roller coaster, we were doing speed limit and that was too fast... probably less than a mile but was a interesting few minutes.

We want y'all to have that "bustin' a bronco" feeling when you first enter The Lonestar State.

I consider Beaumont to Baton Rouge the worst road to travel with a trailer in tow in the lower 48. The road to Chicken, Alaska is worse.

And the 17 major hurricanes that hit that area this past season didn't help matters.

We’ve already mapped a go-around when we return from the Keys later this month.

We traveled that a couple of weeks ago, and to us, it wasn’t bad at all. However, going WEST-bound I-10 on that same stretch is absolutely horrendous! JMO.

I tried to be clever like this last summer. I-20 is only marginally better, and it is in bad condition for a lot longer distance. Hopefully you've found a better route.

Actually I believe it’s I-20 through Shreveport. Brutal!

It's that 10 road thru LA and starting into GA that keeps us from going to FL more often...hate the rough road and the traffic is very dangerous to be towing in. If you go the speed limit, your labile to get run over!

Alternate route??

We've vowed never to travel I-10 from Beaumont through Louisiana again. A month ago, we took the I-20 route on the maiden trip (from VA to TX by way of GA) of our new-to-us International 25, but as mentioned earlier, I-20 through Louisiana is only marginally better than I-10. Huge potholes and sharp turns, especially through Shreveport. A large chunk of pavement that bounced of the hood nearly came through the windshield. We're planning a trip without the AS in March and are looking for alternate routes. Then another trip in May with the AS. I would appreciate alternate route suggestions. We won't be in a hurry.

If you are heading to Georgia or Florida and still want to take I-20, get off I-20 at around Cuba and go through Montgomery. You avoid the narrow lanes of I-20 construction across Alabama, some of which split off...left lane crosses into the part of the highway heading the opposite direction. Nasty, white-knuckle driving even without a trailer.

I see that it takes a long long time for the highway department to repair I 10. We travel east on it in the summer of 2015 and promised ourselves that we would never drive that part of I-10 again with our Jet Stream. That was brutal even at 30 miles per hour. That was before the storms hit that area, we can only assume how bad it is now.

I don’t have the map handy, but East of Lake Charles we jog north to 190, then west connecting I think to 12, connecting back to I-10 in Beaumont, hopefully past the bad in Beaumont. Two lane roads I believe. We’ll see!

If you have the time, 190 from Baton Rouge to Beaumont is a pleasant alternative. It's two lane but not a lot of traffic. Get a taste of back country Louisiana and some local food along the way.

Mojo, Have you done 190 recently? We tried it a few years ago and the road surface was pretty horrible. Agree it was a lot prettier (we prefer “blue highways” anyway).

Yes, drove 190 last year at this time. Opelousas still has terrible roads but the speed limit is slow.

We live in Houston and New Orleans so we travel this stretch I10 often. Lots of construction but will get better. For now, just slow down to 50 and all will be good.
