On a short trip with my family now, just around Wisconsin. A mix of both approaches—reservations at the the Destination (capital D) spots and playing-it-by-ear during the week and for quick one-nighters. My observations: I’m glad I booked a spot at our campground in Bayfield; the CG has been full pretty much every night. Along the way, getting a spot, even at 5-6pm during the week at county and city parks was no issue. $15 for water/electric hookups right next to a lake or mill pond? Sign me up!
One other thing I’ll say is that restaurants and other service sector businesses are having a very hard time staffing their establishments. A restaurant may close a dining room, outdoor seating area, or their entire operation for the evening because they don’t have the staff for it. So you might walk into a restaurant and see 1/3rd of the tables empty and scratch your head and wonder why it’s a 90 minute wait for a table or a 30 minute wait for appetizers. That’s why. They’re doing their best. Be kind.
