OK - Time for my two cents.

I say the tandem Overlander is a 1957 because the Sloped wheel wells were only used in 1957 & 1958, but the 13-panel front end cap and Dutchman's rear were used from 1954 to mid 1957 for California built trailers only. I agree that the window configuration is a little unusual, but then there were many window variations in those years. It must be a 26' Overlander because tandems were not available on shorter lengths in 1957.

The single axel model is obviously from California because of the Dutchman rear and the length and window configurations also indicate it is a 26' Cruiser/Overlander. From the wheel well I'd say it can't be a 1957 because it is not sloped. From the windows I'd say it can't be a 1954 (I think those windows typical first showed up in 1955). That leaves me saying it is 1955 or 1956, but I can't be more exact.

Interesting to see these pictures. They reminded me of what we found here, just north of the border. In the search for a 57 or older Airstream our friends found a 55 or 56 26' CA rig in Abbotsford. Although it was parked in a commercial storage facility (non-RV related) he was able to track down the owner. It is still in very usable condition, and is now relegated to hunting season trips into the backwoods. It appeared to be fully functional, very original, and "well" used but without any major tears or dents. There have been practical upgrades to the interior over the many years, but nothing terrible or damaging. It does sit out in the elements through the year but at least now is stored on gravel and the belly pan was complete and tear free.

It's too big for either of us given we primarily use fifties station wagons as our TV's so if it does come up for sale we will grab a swack of pictures and as much info as we can and post them here. If I remember correctly the s/n showed it as being either the last 55 or the first 56. The owner did say he'd like to see it go to someone who would appreciate it for being a vintage Airstream so would call when he decided to give up his hunting trips.

It does have the desirable whale/dutch rear end.

Ouch!

I bow to Fred's ultimate knowledge.... here are a couple more photos of the WBCCI 1203.

It might be available or maybe already sold to someone else considering the inside.

Ugliest Airstream you will see on ebay

This seller pulls no punches. He tells it like it is. I just posted this for laughs. Please don't hold it against me.

The perfect starting point for a Fish House or Storage building. If you ever wanted to annoy the neighbors this unit has a grand history of being the most obnoxious lawn ornament available. Pink Flamingos, cheezy wind ornaments, concrete donkey carts and shiny gazing balls HAVE NOTHING ON THIS instant landscape enhancer!!! (aluminum Christmas Tree not included)

This is NOT an RV & here are the reasons why:
  • You can't cook in it - no stove
  • You can't stay warm in it - no heater
  • You can't sleep in it - No beds
  • You can't have a meal in it - no tables or chairs
  • You can't store cold beer in it - no refrigerator
  • You can't stay cool in it - no a/c
  • You can't recycle beer in it - no toilet
  • You can't be a couch potato in it - being a potato not a problem but missing couch
  • You can't store a change of clothes in it - missing cabinets and wardrobes
  • You can't shower in it - missing sprayer
  • You can't see very good at night in it - lots of light fixtures removed
  • You can't camp in remote areas - No power supply, only standard 115v electricity with 50' cord.

"Yes it will shine" says one picture. Then Colin Hyde would call it a polished turd. I think the decimal point in the 'Buy it now' price slipped a couple digits to the right.

Good .... uh, find.

The one that got away.

I found this one when driving by the same RV dealer that we bought the Avion from.

I asked they guy there if "even though it might lead to our divorce, if I could take a look at the Argosy?"
But it had sold this morning. Apparantly it had been sitting there for a while. I suppose I need to get out of the house more.

I've seen these two Airstreams over several years. They're on New Mexico 3 about 8 miles south of I-25. You have to look close, since the view through the trees goes by fast, even at 35 mph. The one on the left (the one on the right is obscured by the trees in the left photo) looks like a 67-68 Overlander, but I have no clue about the double slot window model on the right. I've been told that's how the windows were put in if you ordered bunk beds.

Two for sale

Seen at a dealers lot in Sangar , Texas. .....about 40 miles north of Dallas/Ft. Worth on I-35.
Looks like a 70's Soverign with AC and awning. Wally number 10010. Thats all I saw as I whistled by. It has been there a long time. I saw it on the back line for months. No other details.
At the lot right next to it is a late model Bambi also for sale. No details.
