Bad start to 2015........

Just wanted to say to anyone who is hesitant about having, or delaying having another that is due, to get your colonoscopy!
I was diagnosed with rectal cancer last Jan. 15th during my second one. My first was in 2009, was told I could wait 10 years before another as I was "clean" and had no family history. Glad I didn't wait. The doctors think it may have been caught before metastasizing, so fingers are crossed.
In our travels, we have met many who have faced serious medical issues and overcome huge obstacles. I take comfort now in recalling their achievements.
We were forced, due to financial reasons, to trade in our Ram on a small car, and also to short sale our 2009 Classic, so sadly, we wont be making our usual excursions throughout the mid west and west visiting our kids this year. To all the fellow 'streamers we have met in the past couple of years, enjoy it while you can, and hopefully we will meet up once again down the road.

That's sobering news jackcat but an important reminder for sure. I had my first colonoscopy 1.5 years ago but now I will definitely move up the advised ten year waiting period. I had quadruple bypass back in Nov 2011 and it saved my life. But more importantly it made me take a good look at the ever closing window of opportunity at doing something I've dreamed of, and provided the necessary impetus to jump.

Jackcat, I realize you're in for a heck of a fight and I wish you the best. Thanks for sharing your situation and I hope to hear more of your progress. It will be great to hear you're back on the road.

So sorry to read about your situation. We all hope and pray for the best scenario and that you can get back on the road again.

I had my first colonoscopy 5 years ago and had another in 2013. Because they found some polyps in both exams I'm on a three year schedule and if clean I'll be on a 5 year schedule. I'm also getting prostrate tests yearly.

My wife's sister has to have a partial mastectomy. She just got the test results last week after a removal of a tiny lump. The doctors caught off guard by the lab analysis and surgery is scheduled next week.

As we have gotten older we've decided when we retire in a few years to hit the road extensively, maybe full time. Time seems to be rushing by us fast now.

Good luck

Kelvin

I am sorry for your trials Jackcat! Just remember that "all things are possible thru Christ!" Philippians - 4:13. This is my memory verse that helps me constantly. May God bless you.

Good to hear you decided to ignore the 10 year rule and do it on your own. Also, hopefully they found it early enough.

We get ours every 5 years, have since 50 years old, despite insurance rules and now medicare - doctor orders it with some code and it is paid for, our doctor agrees with the five year rule or more often as one ages.

Best of luck and many prayers

Bud

Praying for you, hoping they get it all. My doc told me to come back in five years also... I thought he just liked me!

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis.

Doug had his first colonoscopy after we retired, and years after the Doctor first recommended it. A man-avoidance thing.

He did it for me, lest we be surprised by preventable health issues, and it was clean.

I have a male cousin nearing 70 who has never had a colonoscopy, and says he never will.

Sending you good karma and wishes for a speedy recovery.

Focus on your health, and take care.

Dear jackcat. You've got a lot of people sending positive thoughts and energy your way. I'm sorry for your recent troubles. You seem to have a positive outlook so keep that up. You'll be back on the road in no time.

We are Jack and Kat living in our 28' 1999 Classic. Jack was diagnosed with colorectal cancer 7 years ago. He went for a colonoscopy and the Dr came in and said "the news I got is not the news you want to hear". He was stage 3+. Here he is traveling in our AS full-time and his doctor said this checkup I have good news and bad news..which do you want first? He said of course the good! You are healthy and the bad news is you could live long enough to get Alzheimer's. Keep the faith..we are pulling for you.

Doctors Are Not Gods

But you have the power to bring healing upon yourself through stopping what harms you.
I am only posting this because someone decided to bring health into an RV forum and I am highly interested in health and highly cynical about mainstream 'health care' - sick care is more like it.
Best wishes

There is NOTHING God cant fix. Unless we don't ask him. We will pray for you until we get a good report. I am sure that there is someone here that would loan you a rig. If not, when I get mine right, you can use it. Life is short. Pray hard.
I thank God for the hardships that keep us close to him. A little faith goes a long way. Our AS is really a PRAYER STREAM
