Cleaning Zolotone

I remember reading posts about what others have used/recommended to clean zolotone, but I have ran a couple of searches and can't seem to find the thread(s). I remember one suggestion was a cleaner from the dollar store and their were others mentioned. Would someone be so kind to point me in the right direction or tell what their recommendations are? We are planning to reapply zolotone, but want to clean the surface for the time being. I have purchased Magic Erasers as I remember someone saying they were great for removal of stains. Thanks.

I cleaned my Bambi's Zolatone with Greased Lightning and a scrub brush and it came out like new.
Before I started it was very very dirty.

Where do you find Greased Lightening? Home Depot? We have some areas that are peeling/flaking. What type of scrub brush? Soft bristled or medium. We have some areas where it looks like laquer has been slopped on it.

Wal mart
I used a scrub brush with a handle like I use to clean my tub or tires.

I followed the Greased lightning with water and a washcloth to rinse.

It worked excellent.

Purple stuff (can't remember the exact name) also from Wal-Mart in the automotive department.

I bought some purple stuff from WalMart called Super Clean. It works great!! But be careful. While using it full strength on some especially grimy areas around the front door. it took the paint right off of the door trim!

I used Marine Clean. It is a Por product. I bought it when I bought my Por-15 to paint the frame with.

It worked great to get 40 yrs of grease and cig smoke off. My Zolotone looks almost new.

Rinse it very well or dilute the cleaner before use. I had my skins off when I did it so i just hosed them off. I used it straight out of the bottle, if I did it again I would dilute it a bit. It is pretty strong stuff.


Super Clean works great too. It is pretty strong stuff as well. Wear gloves with both.

Thanks to all I would not have thought to wear gloves...good ides. That gives me a few options to try. Will let you know how it turns out.
