2016 25' FC Comfort Mods

No new ideas here I don't think, but we finally got around to making some changes to our 2016 25' FB Twin Flying Cloud. After around 210 nights in the trailer, I wanted a more comfortable chair for relaxing in the evening, so we took out the street side of the dinette and put in a recliner. We decided to have some fun with the table top, so we made our own, including our own homemade stain. Here are some before, during and after pictures. We also made some changes a while back to level and extend the twin mattress supports, and to add wooden bottoms to the pantry shelves. I've included those pictures too.

We will be going on a month long trip to try out the new dinette configuration starting June 4th.

Did you ever consider pulling the remaining dinette bench and doing a second recliner?
Where did you purchase the recliner?

We also want to do the mattress width support extensions. Have you already posted on how you did yours? It looks great.

It's easier to put in two recliners in the rear bed model. In the front bed model like ours, you'd have to deal with relocating the furnace. We purchased the recliner directly from Lambright in IN, and had them ship it to our house in FL.

I didn't post anything separate on how it was done, but it was really straightforward. I just cut the 1/4" plywood to length (from the foot of the bed to where the nightstand starts), and I think about 10-12" wide, and then screwed it down into the supports - right on top of what was there. So it can easily be removed if needed. I also rounded the corner so we wouldn't bump into the corners with our shins. We've had no problems with it and it did make the beds more comfortable. Now the mattresses just barely hang over the side, instead of having about 3" hanging over.

What dimensions did you use for your table, and also table height? I notice you have an adjustable base, but did you have difficulty with height between the recliner and the bench? I had to add a 3 inch base to the recliner and it is still too low. The table height is based on the bench. I have the recliner from CW.
As for the mattress, I had converted from a queen to twins and made size to fit single bed.

I’m going to restruct our area for two recliners and not move the furnace. I’ve measured and scaled and believe it can be done with slight angling of a recliner and staying with the slim line models. I have found several post where others have done the same.
If it fails I’ll move the furnace up ... I’m a Renaissance man of do it yourself.

The dimensions I ended up with for the table are:

L = 37"
W = 28"
H = 28 1/2" (from the floor to the top of the table)

The person sitting in the recliner (so far that's just been me) does have to scoot forward in the seat when eating or playing a game at the table, but that doesn't bother me. I wanted to be able to turn the recliner parallel to the table/door, and it has to clear the wall behind it, so I couldn't make the table top too wide.

I kept the original table top and dinette bench/cushions intact so that it could be put back if desired. The table top I built is plywood with edge banding. We made our own stain and put on ~5 or 6 coats of polyurethane. I'm not a really a woodworker, obviously, but it was a fun project and it's working out well. It would be easy enough to replace with something else in the future.
