Question Wanderlust with wonderings...

Hi Everyone! We're in the Bay Area with a 32ft '86 Excella. We're in a what-do-we-do phase... keep the Excella full of memories and space, or downsize to a newer Flying Cloud with the irresistible back hatch. We are looking at one, but it only has one AC unit, which is a worry given our blistering annual temperature climbs.

We are in this rare time where we are fully portable with our 7 year olds, but maybe we wait until we can get one with two ACs even if it pushes us out of the timeline to hit the road for a longer stretch.

We welcome all thoughts and suggestions!

I didn't see the length of the Flying Cloud dream. Two AC units require 50 amps to power them both. One AC is adequate for maybe 25'. But as you know one AC isn't very effective on a hot day in your Excella. We find the MaxAir ceiling fan does a good job of exhausting hot air from the trailer, but if it is hot outside, well you're hot too.

I hope others reply to this thread too.

David

Thank you, David. I appreciate your thoughts. It’s 27 feet, but we’ve heard from others that 25ft is really the max for one AC unless you’re only planning to be in mild climates. We live inland in the Bay Area, so definitely get some 100+ temps.

Welcome to the forum.

We had a 25' [rear corner bed] 1985 Sovereign in the 90's, and usually had to "shut off" the rear bedroom by closing the accordian passage door, and stuffing a puffy pillow in the air gap above the top track, in order to cool the main room in hot weather. No way could we have slept back in the bedroom.

Guessing that with a child, and a longer trailer, this option may not work for you?

Good luck,

Peter

Thanks, Peter. I think we've decided to work on a rig with two ACs to make the most out of our travel time. Best to not have to fully chase cooler temps!
