Cool New to this site, just got a 1975 31 ft Airstream

Hi looking for any info I can get on this trailer, Think I bit off more then I can chew on it, lot of things wrong.
SN is 131T5J2802 Only a couple small dents on body, but frame is really rusty, windows all intact but some are clouded in the middle, has 2 new 700 15 tires, other two really rotted, AC runs ok, fridge on electric OK. Had a smoker living in it, what to clean interior?, pulling all carpeting out, curtains as well.
My other camper is a restored 1973 Amerigo snap and nap truck camper...love it..but my folks had a Airstream, and I always wanted one.

Try Castrol "Super Clean" to clean the interior. Cuts grease & probably smoke film too. They have it at Menards & automotive stores. Just don't use it on the exterior of your trailer--doesn't get along well with aluminum. As far as your frame goes, use the "search" feature on the top of the page & you'll find a ton of information. That's way out of my range of fix-up's, but if you're good with welding, etc., maybe you can handle it! Good Luck & congrats on your Airstream!

Welcome to the Forums. If yours is a mid-bath, we have the same model. I can give you lots of info on things like the dump valve and how to fix the plumbing (I find that almost all older Airstreams have broken water pipes and many have cracked tanks).

You've got a lot of good Forum members nearby, so don't be reluctant to ask for help.

Welcome to the forums. LOTS of GOOD information here. AS are not magic, just simple machines. You will need patience, and a good rivet gun . Have fun.

Welcome Jim in Pima. I have a '75 that I recently acquired too. So far this site has been a wealth of information to me. Post pics when you get a chance.

Jim,

Congrats, it is not bad as it seems, or at least not yet. You have a pretty nice trailer. Start with the cleaning (Super clean is the best) and then let us know via a new thread or PM whats going on and we will help. I have done lots to me '74 31'r and it is all fixable.

Welcome Jim, glad to have you!
Castrol Super Clean is a great product....with a couple of "common sense" precautions.

It will remove the oils from your skin - wear gloves!
If used full strength, it can remove paint. I would recomment diluting and then increasing the strength as needed.
I've had it irritate my lungs if I got in the vapor cloud - wear respiratory protection, or at least have good ventilation.
Good luck with your new project,
Dave

Welcome to the forums! Mean Green also works wonders. I have used it on both of our A/S's and the walls are pretty and white now. Even took the smoke stains off. Good luck on the restore. You will find great people on this site that are willing to jump in and help with any question you may have.
