Talking Future Owner

Hi All

I am in the market for a vintage airstream and am using these forums for research on the many models I am considering. I live in Lexington, Kentucky and am hoping to find a local expert/professional who would be able to answer some questions and potentially assist with a pre purchase inspection. I have lots to learn, but excited to join the airstream community.

Cheers

Good luck in your search. You might post what you are looking for in this forum. You never know if someone is thinking about selling and just have you not posted an ad yet. You might also check Airstream Hunters on Facebook.

I am looking broadly for a 24'-31' vintage trailer between $5-7k. I hope to invest in a unit with a solid frame, shell, chassis, and floors. Ideally, I would like to live in this unit while restoring it.

I'm also researching options for adapting to solar power.

Edit: I'm currently looking at this 1974 Excella 500, low asking price by private seller.
I would appreciate any advice evaluation this unit. Thank you.

Exactly what DoubleR said. Even if you came up with which decade you were interested in, that would help. Are you planning to renovate a vintage or purchase one already there? The trailers in each decade from the 40s to the 70s were all unique in their own way. For instance, grey water tanks were not required until the early 70s. The older the trailer, the harder it is to find parts. How many people will be traveling in it? Also, there is an inspector list here on the forums. Good luck and let us know.
