New Owners Lakeway Texas

My wife, Jan, and I purchased a 2009 FC RB in early October from a private seller in North Carolina...We decided to make the pickup trip a shakedown cruise. Talk about jumping into the deep end of the pool as we had no previous experience. Thanks to this forum and all of you we did pretty well. We knew there would be problems or upgrades we wanted as with anything ten years old. We have spent the last two months getting ready for the long hauls this year. At the end of our shake down we dropped the AS at the local dealer mainly because we needed a state inspection to get it titled in Texas but while there we did some overhauling.
1. Brake shoes inspected and wheel bearings packed.
2. Propane recertification inside and out.
3. New water heater as old one leaked.
4. Upgraded to 15,000BTU AC/HP with modern thermostat.
5. New tongue jack as the old one failed the day I dropped it off.

After taking it to the barn (storage unit) I ditched the old lead acid batteries, sanded and repainted the box, installed new cable leads and installed two deep cycle maintenance free types. Also purchased a water proof battery tender as we have power (20amp) in the barn.

Now our like new but slightly used Flying Cloud is ready to hit the road. We are off this week for South Padre Island. In feb we are heading to West Texas and Carlsbad.

We have already booked a place in the Grand Tetons for next Sep. Plan to head north to Glacier National Park then down to the Tetons. Probably be about eight weeks n the road as you can't stand Austin in the summer.

Thanks to everyone for all the advise. I have found that someone has already ran into everything that can go wrong.

Larry and Jan wishing all a Merry Christmas and a Happy new year.

Congrats on your FC. And greetings from PA (via FL).

Sounds like you starting swimming immediately after jumping in. You'll have so much fun!

I might suggest you look into the AS Club. Find a local unit and attend a few rallies as a guest (if desired).

Wishing you happy and safe travels!

Congrats and welcome to the family!

We did the same some years back - bought used from part way across the country. We jumped in get first and learned to swim quickly and luckily without major headaches.

Have fun and travel SAFE!!
