Eager for what's next

Good day all.
My wife and I have just purchased a Ram 2500 Longhorn. Earlier than we planned but it was a good deal. Next is the 30ft Classic RQB. We just toured one north of Richmond, Vq and have decided that will be a our next home until we find a place along the spine of the Blueridge Mountains. I am retired 30 year Navy currently working ship repair for Maersk and my wife develops training for military family counselors and support staff. We are tired.
I am also new to wood working so I am currently building a knock down work bench and starting a gentlemen's tool chest to house my hand tools.
We are looking forward to learning from you all. Mary will still work for a couple years, I will be not! We are very interest to learn from you. We are specifically interested in maintaining a strong reliable internet connection to support Mary's work. I am looking for wood workers and carvers and mini-lathe folks, Veterans, and the list goes on....plan is in about a year...See you then.

Jerry, welcome to the Airstream life. Sounds like you’re ready to jump in head first. The Blueridge Mountains are on my bucket list. Woodworking is a great hobby and really comes in handy when renovating an Airstream. Take care, be safe and lots of luck in your future plans.

Hi Jerry, greetings from central Kentucky and welcome to the forum.

Many years ago I met a recently retired executive in Florida. He had worked in Chicago and had moved to central Florida for retirement. Like you, he was looking for a hobby to keep him occupied. He had never worked with wood before but apparently he was one of those "in for a penny, in for a pound" kind of guys. He learned all about woodworking to the point were he made several harps, beautiful pieces of art, then taught himself how to play. He traveled in the west picking up tumbleweed stems, bringing them home and cutting them into tiles. He made a tabletop out of them, entered a woodworking contest and won. He made multi-colored wooden bowls and many pieces of furniture. His home was like a top end furniture store.

I wish you luck in your endeavor, I hope it brings you many hours of enjoyment.

Greetings from a retired guy in Colorado: There is a lot of information about the Airstream lifestyle here on these Forums. We live in the mountains and have almost no cell signal and must use satillete internet, which works good enough. When we travel, we use a cell phone "hot spot" for internet service. I can read Airstream Forums from our Airstream.

Bubba L is a very good woodworker, look at his renovation of his 55 and see for yourself. Another participant Atomic_13 is also very good. Search his user name. Recently docflyboy has been posting about his old Airstream project and he is also very skilled. You might find these AirForums members interesting.

Most of vintage Airstream woodworking is building new cabinets to replace the old rotted ones. You have a late model trailer and might not be doing much to it just yet.

Welcome to the family!

I am a retired aerospace engineer and avid wood worker. I started a finish carpentry and custom furniture business to keep me busy plus I love doing it. Happy to help you in this area if I can.

NO remodel

Just a point of clarification, we are buying a new or a Gently Used Classic. I am not going to take on a renovation of a Airstream. I think my wife would hide every tool I own if even mentioned a restoration project. The wood working is a hobby and maybe down the road some sales.
