To be honest, we weren't really thinking of getting rid of the bus. More so we were looking for an option when something smaller was in order. We do not pull a toad with the bus, so it does limit our day trips when we are camping. We're thinking that a truck and 23' - 25' Airstream would give us the ability to set up a base camp and do a lot more day trips. It would also make it possible for us to stretch out the camping season since the bus is always parked from Nov through the end of April (we don't want it on the road when there is any chance of salt on the roads.)
For those curious here are a few photos. You might see some similarity to Airstreams in some of the interior. When the conversion was done in 1974 there were only two parts bins to pull from for high-quality RV fittings, the marine world and the Airstream world.
The bus currently has only 55,000 original miles. The conversion was done in 1974 on a brand new shell, and for the most part what you're looking at is how it came from the factory.
We tend towards vintage things. Our goal is to find the 'perfect' vintage Airstream, but since the styling hasn't really ever changed we'd be happy with the right modern rig if we found one.
Enjoy. If someone just can't live without it, we can talk.
