Question Next Classic Airstream Motorhome Rally

Not sure, but checking?
Was a committee appointed to research and coordinate another Rally of Classic Motorhomes? I know that it was discussed informally as possibly being held in the Hot Springs (Ozark Mountain Area, but when? If no committee was appointed, can that be done and at least tentative dates and place established????

Win,

There was no offical committe appointed, but it was discussed that Labor Day weekend, maybe at Top of GA?

I personally would like to see it held at an Airstream park (read as cheap to stay, with great facilities) If it is held in GA I think that more owners may attend. I know there were some people interested that reside on the west coast but it was to far to drive.

How does starting a thread that lists three or 4 possible locations for a Labor Day rally and we can see what the response is??

I would like to attend the Region 3 rally but I do not think I can get enough time off to attend. It is close to you, and will be at top of GA.

Any other thoughts???

Region 3 Rally

I think Brett is in error. I believe the Region 3 Rally will be held May 9 - 13 in Myrtle Beach, SC.

This will probably be a pretty big rally. They may even have one of the famous Airstream flea markets. I hope we can go. It may be my first try at a rally on my own.

There is a little information at this website:

Our 1981 Excella Diesel was (and still is) in Tulsa, OK at Airmark for polishing, upgrading and detailing. We would have attended the Mystic Springs rally and will make every attempt to attend the next one. We are selling our home in Southern California this Summer and plan to full-time for a short period while we decide where we want to plant ourselves for the rest of our retirement.

We will spend time in South Carolina (wife's family) and Ohio (my family) for most of the Summer so just about anywhere would not be too far out of our way.

How about something closer to the west coast? I cannot take so much time off work to travel places like GA or FL (esp. with a young kid to take care of who is in school . . . )

Provided I get my MOTORHOME by the time the rally rolls around . . . it's stuck in Kansas City (MO - ?) getting the alternator rebuilt (they couldn't locate a new one because supposedly this dual-output alternator is "rare"). And, yes, it definitely IS built on a Ford 460 chassis.

So, the saga continues . . . and here I sit, without an airstream . . .

Site and Date

I believe it was Peter and Cindy who suggested Hot Springs Arkansas (Middle of the Country in the Beautiful Ozarks) and I woiuld still like to suggest that a central location (It couldn't be more central for everyone than Arkansas. I'm a little squeamish about a Labor Day week-end - Too much traffic on all the roads
But it would be the best area to be travelling into over a holiday week.

Yes, Dr Joe, we briefly did talk about Arkansas as a possibility for a fall rally. Labor Day is still a bit early in the year, too hot. Mid to end October is perfect. The area around Lake Ouachita is very beautiful and the mountains are full of crystal, waiting to be dug out.
One of the Crystal Mines has an Rv park and there are several state parks around. I am not aware of any Airstream parks in the area. Once we get closer and the interest is there, I would be glad to stake out a place. An event like that should not be cramped into a short weekend.

Further on Rally

I second your comments Peter - things are moving so fast here tonite I can hardly keep up - We have SOLD Big Girl today and will be planning a trip up to Indiana to pick up our new "Big Momma" at Cliff's house within the next 10- days. Of course we are going to be anxious to attend a rally with it ASAP, but of course the trip back to SC from Indiana will be exciting enough..
Your comments and others confirm that we need to consider central location so it is as close to equal trips for the furtherst
SC to Arkansas is a good trip for us, and from looking at the map, almost everyone would have similar distances. I think we should have a poll of the M7 Charter Members to come up with a firm resolution to be voted by Motorhome owners of the Site.

I have NO idea where in KC my motorhome is - the dealer just contacted the driver who is delivering it to me and he said that the alternator would not charge the batteries - so he stopped off somewhere in Kansas City (whether it is Missouri - I don't know). As of today, he was still there awaiting repair . . .

1) I thought Ford's were more reliable than Chevy?

2) Let's decide the top 4 suggestions and put it to a vote. I still think one central national rally and other regional get togethers will satisfy more. I think the left coaster's need a leader! I suggest we have an southeast annual first weekend in April rally alternated each year between Mystic and TOG.

3) After further review, we are probably going to attempt to sneak by and keep our "Jellybean III". Our goal is to try to make the 2003 International Rally in Vermont. We may skip other rallys to make that one. We have family in New England.

Just to add to the confusion- what about Nashville, Tennese area
for a rally. Close to Indiana, Illinois, and the Southeast states?
Just a thought.
As we are doing a 2-3 week trip in June-July, I am not sure where we might want to go next, but we are open.
Going to T.O.G for the Georgia unit rally next weekend.
By the way congrats Dr Joe. Hopefully Cliff will get an Airstream trailer and join us next time.
And to Fred- sounds good ! It may be easy to sell but hard to replace...

I REALLY like Fred's idea for one central national rally and other regional get togethers. The southeast annual first weekend in April rally alternated each year between Mystic and TOG works especially well for us, since we are in central FL.

Congrats to Dr. Joe for the exchange in MHs. Special congrats to Winn for getting a permanent bed!

I couldn't be happier to know that Fred & Monique will be maintaining their current case of aluminitis. One thing I've learned is that aluminitis will worsen in time if left untreated.

Finally, I hope Cliff will continue to join us even though he is giving up custody of Big Momma.

We're going to need to set some ground rules for the next rally.

1) Thou shall not covet they neighbors coach.
2) No coach swapping. It's a sick world out there! We need to practice safe rallies!

Doc and Winn,
I'm sure you'll enjoy your new-to-you 345!

Ground Rules for Rallies

I would like to comment on the proposed Ground Rules for Rallies"

"To Covet " according to Webster means to "desire ENVIOUSLY (What belongs to another)" I don't believe anyone at any time duirng the M7 Rally acted covetuously.
Winn is visibly dismayed with the insinuation advanced of "coveting" in at least two previous posts to these Forums.
Her personal expressed view of attendance at the rally and the "tour of homes" was a feeling of intense admiration and privilege in seeing what each of the owners have done to fashion their vehicles in their own personal amplifications of beauty and functionality.
Because of our advanced ages, we have been exploring options of selling our coach and aquiring another having differing internal arrangement. Since the opportunity has presented itself to us (albeit at a rally of motorhomes) to obtain such a vehicle, we have opted to do so.
We certainly do not perceive any intent of coveting in our actions in selling our motorhome and acquiring another.
