Bathroom Restoration Before/After Pics
After much wailing, gnashing of teeth, optimism followed by sulking depression (and buyer's remorse), I have finally reassembled the bathroom in our '72 Overlander. I have not posted in a while as I've been pretty busy getting this 200 lb gorilla off my back.
After purchasing our all original (and pretty good condition) Overlander in late January, I discovered a rotten floor in the bath (big surprise, right?). This led to all of the fun I've had for the last 2 months. (See pictures under member's photos-Pizzachop )
Attached are pics of the finished product above the previous nightmare.
We refinished the bathroom components with "Tough As Tile" brand 2-part epoxy for about $25. (This doesn't include the labor of cleaning/prepping the surface) While instructions say you can brush it on in two coats, I recommend spraying it in a dust free environment as you can apply it all at one time in several light coats (no 12 hr between coats) as well as avoid the inevitable "brush particles". We replaced all of the plastic trim molding with strips of linoleum to match the floor and painted all of the tambour doors white. We replaced the orig water heater with a lp/110v Atwood 10gl and the toilet with a Sealand Traveler light Low Profile. I will arrange and post the rest of the pics in the photo section in the next week or so.

Amazing! Looks great. What an enormous undertaking. Always amazes me the amount of work people are willing to put into their Airstream. We are definitely a strange breed.

looks to be easy to obtain
Checked the manufacturer's website - looks like it can be had from several different home improvement centers.

Lowe's has it on the shelf. Also found several online sources.

Bathroom Restoration
What an awesome result! Your work is beautiful. You give me hope, as this will be the first thing I attack on my "new" 1964 Overlander. I fear I have no floor for a template!

Impressive!
I'll have to try this stuff out on our Shower pan. If it does good there I have a shower in the house I was ready to call a company to refinish.
You do great work. I was watching the other post to see the end results.
So you wanna come help put ours together?
Just kidding.

What a supurb job! Looks great.
Does anyone know how this product hold up? Any special care needed when using a refinished tub, sink, or shower pan?

Tim,
Mine is holding up really well. Even where the shower hose ( metal) rubs on the finish, ther is no sign of wear.
We've been to Baja, had sand crusted babies in there, and all sorts of traffic in the bath ( mine is a wet bath where you walk inside the shower pan every time you enter the bath"room") with no problems or peeling so far.
I had mine done by a refinishing company, but I guess the 2-part store bought stuff is just as good.

Uwe,
If you don't mind me asking, (even if you do it's too late ) how much did it cost to have it professionaly redone?
If my memory serves, you had your bathroom totally disassembled didn't you? So I suppose you had it done then. I would like to have something done in place so I don't have to dismantle the bathroom.

Tim, I paid $ 250.00 for the bath pan, the toilet riser cover, and the vanity top/sink assembly. This includes several hours of prep work.
I then decided to have them do the tambour as well, and paid a little extra for this. I forget how much.
It is definitely cleaner to do it once it is removed, but it is possible to do it with everything in place, especially if you're using the brush-on system mentioned above.
I can not see spraying the parts while they are in place, and get a good result. It's too tight, and overspray would be inevitable, resulting ina hazy finish.

Bathtub Removal
I cannot figure out how to remove the bathtub from its drain pipe. Do you how I can reach the nut attaching the pipe to the drain assembly?

The chrome bezel in the bathtub IS the nut. It's threaded into the P-Trap. Put a couple of screwdrivers into the drain and cross them and you should be able to turn it out.
