The slim black box you speak about sounds like the "candy bar" antenna which is only good when touching the back of the cell phone and is useless if it is more than a foot away. Your installation is not according to the manufacturer specs for separation. These boosters work but you need to follow the recommendations. There are several threads here and you tube videos on the various setups
I have the 4g-x drive with all we boost brand equipment including 400 lmr cable, omni directional antenna at one end of the trailer and the panel antenna at the other end mounted under the cabinet above the dinette and it works well at the dinette. We had the candy bar antenna initially but since it had to be on the back of the phone to work it was only good for one user so we upgraded to the panel.

I did additional testing on my iPhone X and Verizon Jetpack. When physically touching the antenna, the signal strength on the phone goes from one bar to all 4. 10 inches appart it goes back to one. The Jetpack did not show any difference: close, away or with the Weboost 4X powered off.

Yes, my experience also.

I'm also debating on which INSIDE antenna to buy -- I'm not a fan of the candy bar that came with the kit. Question: What would happen to the signal strength if I spray painted either the wall mount or ceiling mount antenna to match the decor? These antennas stick out like a "sore thumb"!

My guess is paint would not cause any degradation as long as it wasn't metallic. The WeBoost support staff are very helpful - give them a call and ask them.
My limited experience with the WeBoost systems indicate the larger antenna is much better.

Does anyone know what connectors I need to connect the Wilson400 Low Loss 20 foot cable to 1) The Surecall Omni Outdoor Antenna, and 2) a connector for the Weboost Drive? The thick Low Loss Cable Male Connector is huge!

Looking to route my weboost antenna using existing winegard tv antenna wiring since we don’t use the tv antenna and avoiding making a new hole in the A$. Anyone have success doing this?

No need to make a new hole. Remove the refrigerator vent cover and run the wire down the vent stack. There is already an opening from the vent stack into the electronics cabinet. At least there is on the late model Classics. Reinstall the vent cover with VHB tape and SikaFlex 221 caulk and you’re good to go.

We have one and enjoy it. The cable is integral part of the antenna system in the radio systems I know, so using the same hole (or a persisting opening) appears to make sense, but probably not the same wire. Tech Support of Weboost is very friendly and helpful, you may want to give them a call. As for the use and benefits, keep in mind you need to be right next to the inside antenna to boost the signal.

If you only use the little antenna that comes with the WeBoost then, yes, you need to be right next to the antenna. However, if you also install a Wilson Flat Plate Antenna on the ceiling near the center of the trailer you can be just about anywhere in the trailer and receive the boosted signal. If you go back through this thread you will see a picture of the Wilson indoor antenna I mounted in our trailer. It has worked great for nearly two years now.

Unfortunately no roof vent on my Sport 22 so I’d have to drill or go through the sewage opening which I’m hesitant to do.

I just installed the WeBoost system on my 20FC last week and this is what I did:
1. I made a mast out of 2 inch black ABS pipe. There are two 4 foot pieces and one 3 foot piece. They all thread together to make a secure antenna that withstood some high winds up in the mountains. The antenna is attached to the top of the pipe with zip ties. This makes the total height approximately 12 feet high and clears anything on the top of the Airstream. The antenna is omni directional. The mast is held to the ground by a flagpole tire mount that I put under the foot of the jack when I set up camp.
2. I drilled a hole in the window frame (front) and another one in the screen frame. The cable is threaded through those holes and the booster is installed on the wall by the magazine holder (over the bed).
3. The cable to the interior antenna is strung under the mattress and threaded through the small opening between the wall and the interior side of the Airstream…and then on over to the dinette.
4. Still to be done is to file sharp edges from the holes I drilled and coat them with rubber or install grommets for a finished look.
I was approximately 27 miles from the nearest cell tower. Once the system was powered up, I had uninterrupted cell and internet service for the weekend. I was at 7500 feet altitude up in the mountains.
I purchased the system from Techno RV and they are very helpful. Originally, I was going to use their suction cup method of installing the antenna but ended up opting for my home made one. I didn’t feel comfortable with using the suction cup on the window. I had considered going through the trunk, installing the booster under the kitchen sink and then running the cable to the refrigerator counter top. The obstacles were no electrical outlet in the trunk and enough cable length to the internal antenna.
Once I am finished with the work on the holes and cleaning up the cables with cable ties etc… for a finished look, I will post pictures.
