Vin Number Locations

We just bought a used 1993 Diesel Pusher Class A 34 foot AirStream Motorhome / land yacht. We bought in WA trying to register elsewhere. We have the title signed over and a Bill of Sale. The DMV needs to locate 2 places where the Vin # is indicated and we can only find one on the door (driver side).

On another note, there happens to be another 17 digit number in the front compartment near the generator but the number does not match the vin on the door...this has thrown the DMV into a tizzy and we may have to go to sherriffs office (The wait is 6 months)!! to confirm the vehicle is valid and registerable.

We have all original documents but nowhere can we find a map or a drawing that shows us where the other vin number might be located.

If you have any ideas your help would be appreciated.

Thank you so much

Welcome to the forums. I had a similar issue with my 94 Classic. It had a sticker on the dashboard put there by Airstream, then it also had a different punched plate from Spartan who made the chassis inside the front hatch, there is also a serial number on the engine, and none of these match. I'm guessing the plate on he door matches the title? Basically you need to go to the DMV and present yourself as the authority...tell them the door tag is the Airstream VIN, and that the other plate is the chassis manufacturer serial number...there is no other stamp for the VIN. It was a close call for me, but I talked them into it at the end of the day on a Friday. You could perhaps also get a letter from Airstream? Good luck.

I had original paperwork with my Landyacht on purchase from the second owner. Found 2 serial numbers in different places, on the dash, inside the front compartment, and in the engine compartment. One serial # is for the frame/engine (mine is Freightliner) second is the Airstream number. While in Jackson Center last summer the Airstream folks confirmed all of my numbers and provided a build date of 6/15/1997. The tag office used the Freightliner serial number for the tag and title.
