1Rookie - 1969

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling lost on this forum, haven't posted any picture yet , but I did purchase a (31') 1969 Sovereign 3 weeks ago.. ether than replacing all the screens, the work has begun. Tiles removed and carpet where the twin beds are located just removed. Also removed some mactac, over the original wall coverings. Don't know how to start the fridge while the A/S is plugged in, currently sitting in the driveway. Help in on the menu, Please n Thanks.. Ed Maybe this will show up on page 1..

Welcome to the forums...

There should be a row of knobs inside the refrigerator along the bottom. One switches the trailer from gas to electric. Once it is turned to electric it should start to cool. It will take several hours to get the unit cold.

Welcome! My wife took one look at the refrigerator in my trailer and said "Naaaaa." I've had it one year. I think she's been inside it once.

Here we live by the golden rule . . . she with the gold rules. I sort of ruined her for camping back in the motorcycle trip days. I have a wee small restless streak, and she like to stay home and play Betty Crocker. My small trips are three weeks. She was glad the trailer wasn't ready to go when I got it. She looked at the refrigerator and I said I'll clean it. She said that can't be cleaned.

I ordered a new one. It's been seasoning in my shop since last November.

I thought it was working

Didn't you say that the refer is working on "Hydro"? If that is the case then you don't need to burp it. You just need to switch it to the gas mode and light the burner.

Let review a few things...

Does your fridge work on electric, gas or neither?

If you do not have the knobs and switches shown in the picture, what do you have?

If you look at the back of the unit from the access panel, do you see any yellow staining or smell any ammonia?

I'm pretty sure you'll want a higher load range for a 31-footer, even a lighter '60s model. Airstream recommended 6-ply tires in '75 for my 24-footer, which corresponds to load range C. LOTS of people on the forums like the heavier D rating for better durability, and quite a few people are upgrading to 16" rims to have a wider choice of tires.
