OK, I want to come to the rally, BUT, now I only have a 1977 Avion MotorHome (she is a beauty + my Argosy was sold). May I join the RM Rally in June or do I have to reserve next to you airstreamers? Either way, I want to join the rally here. Finally, get to meet Peter?

Sue, so we would get to meet after all this time. Great!
I used to have a MH just like Sue's Avion and that is how me met over the net.
My german friends have confirmed their visit to the US as well. Looks like the group is getting bigger. They are extremely excited to have the opportunity to attend an event like this!

Thumbs up Details, Details, Details...

I called the NM State Park Reservations today...here's what I found out:

We can make reservations online or by phone on March 21st for a June 19th arrival, not before. I suggest that we all try to reserve on the 21st...

I also, confirmed the that Blanco Campground has electrical and water only, no sewer hook-up, although there is a dump station nearby. Willow Creek has electrical, water and sewer however, the reserve-able sites are spread out throughout the loop and there are only 5 sites that can be reserved. Also, Blanco has 27 reserve-able sites. I just wanted to point this out, so those of us w/o grey water tanks can be prepared...

Campground Locale

Which campground is everyone planning on making reservations and how far apart are the campgrounds? I think we should all try and stay close together. I, for one do not have a grey water tank and would really like to have waste water connection. Has anyone ever stayed at Heron Lake that knows the lay of the land, so to speak?

Brad,

I'll be there by March 15th and will be forwarding Shari pics of both campgrounds and she'll be able to post them here.

Here's another link with a layout of the park.

Thanks John,
Looks to me that the Willow Creek reservation sites are best suited for us. What is the elevation of the lake? Now, I gotta ask...how's the fishing?

Brad,

Here's the link for the park. Shows avg temps and elevations.

I understand that the San Juan River just west of the park is good trout fishing.

Bring your rod-John

San Juan River

Hey John,
I've fished the San Juan half a dozen or so times. It is one of the West's premier trout tailwater fisheries. You can count on me bringing several of my rods, waders, boots, inflatable pontoon boat, fins, and all the other flyfishing gear that seems to be needed when planning a trip out on the water. Have you heard any reports of the fishing in Heron Lake? Where can I get a non-resident fishing license locally? Now I'm really getting twitchy

Brad ~

The only problem with Willow Creek is there are only 5 reserve-able sites and they are all spread out...I guess we need to decide how important it is that we are all co-located. And maybe once John gets settled in he'll be able to work some magic so we can be together...

As far as hook-ups, we have a "blue belly" that will work fine for the grey water and there are campground toilets for majority use...just some thoughts ~

Also, check out the links in my 2/21/03 post (page 1 in this thread)...you'll find all sorts of info on the sites, weather, elevation, attractions and things to do...

Shari

BTW the park/lake is at 7200 ft

This is really sounding like its coming together nicely. I take it that John will be out of touch internet-wise once he arrives and starts being the camp host? I'm really looking forward to this trip. The Airsteam Amber sounds interesting. Looks like there's a lot to do around the region. Thanks for all your tips. Hopefully we'll all get coordinated before March 21st registration day. Yeah, we have the stinky blue tank as well, although its really small so it can fit under the low-slung termination connection.

Here are a few more carots for those not familiar with the region:
HWY 64 from Tierra Amarilla to Tres Piedras is a very beautiful scenic route. (Caution, steep and windy road)
The Rio Grande Gorge for those who need to satisfy their vertigo cravings
Wild water rafting on the Rio Grande
Taos
Taos Pueblo
as mentioned before the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad

Thumbs up Here's the plan...

Right now, I have 32" of snow on the ground...so planning a campout seems a bit odd...but June will be here before you know it!

Rob & I will be making our reservation for the Blanco Campground tomorrow for the 19th-22nd of June. John has sent me several emails with additional information, he does not have full-time internet access from the campground but does check-in periodically. From what I understand, neither Blanco or Willow Creek have sewer hook-ups except for the campground host sites, (WC may have 1 or 2) although there is a dump station at Willow Creek that can be used by all.

It's also my understanding that the two loops are too far apart to walk back & forth from one to the other. So, here's the suggestion: Let's all try to get sites grouped together at Blanco...John said there is a nice restroom with showers near sites 26-36+. He also said there are a couple of larger sites there that would be good meeting &/or hang-out places for us as a group.

I am expecting photos from John, although I won't have them to post before Friday. I will post them as soon as I get them. He did say there was still snow on the ground now though! I guarantee it'll be gone by June...

I'll also post a confirmation of our site # once our reservation has been made....please do the same Looking forward to this gathering...it ought to be fun!

Shari
