Antsy & Troubs - Elizabethtown, KY: July 27-29, 2012

Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours - Elizabethtown, KY: July 27, 28 & 29, 2012

This is a loosely defined rally for the weekend of July 27, 28 & 29, 2012. Depending on how many attend there's a possibility of getting together for a meal on Friday (evening), Saturday (morning or noon) or Sunday (morning). The only planned event at this time is attending the Antsy McClain and Trailer Park Troubadours show held on Saturday night, July 27, at The State Theater in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. The event is held on the same weekend as Cruisin’ the Heartland car show (see below).

Tickets go on sale in May - price is $25 each. This show is a fund-raising program for Living Waters for Guatemala sponsored by the Elizabethtown Rotary Foundation. Ticket information is available from Bob Swope, Rotary member, at bswope@swope.com

We are staying at Elizabethtown Crossroads Campground. The campground is a Good Sam park (formerly a KOA I think). Rates are $28/night for 30A and $30/night for 50A. All sites include sewer and most are pull-throughs. Their web site is http://www.elizabethtowncrossroadscampgroundky.com/1.html

If you’re planning to attend please RSVP on the rally page. You can change your RSVP at a later date if needed. http://www.airforums.com/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=940&day=2012-7-27&c=1

Check out Antsy McClain http://www.unhitched.com/

Crusin’ the Heartland car show http://www.cruisingtheheartland.com/
Swope Cars of Yesteryear Museum http://www.swopemuseum.com/

Historic Glendale Crossing www.historicglendale.com

The National Corvette Museum is in Bowling Green Kentucky www.corvettemuseum.com

Fort Knox is not open to visitors but there is a museum on the grounds. I think the museum focuses on General Patton http://www.knox.army.mil/PattonMuseum/

Check out Youtube for lots of Antsy videos. Here's a sampler.

As you see, many of the songs have a humorous side but there's lots of serious topics too. Everything from first love, your place in life and making the most of it, responsibilities of parenting...

Then there's one of my favorites that just makes me laugh every time I hear it:

I sure wish that he would come back to So Cal again. Had a great time at the one concert we attended.

I just noticed the Cruisin' the Heartland web site has been updated recently. The web site mentions the Antsy & Troubs show but I don't think the tickets are on sale yet. I'll double-check tomorrow and post what I find.

Lucius,

We are up for this rally if I can get the time away from work and the AC system charged in the truck.

Probably be a last minute thing though so we'll get tickets and then just consider it a donation if we can't make it.

Sounds good Tim,

Seems like last time we got together in E-town you stayed with a relative. Is that an option this time if the truck is not ready? Regardless, we hope to see you.

One of my brothers is considering attending in his SOB but his schedule is unknown at this point. I may go ahead and buy his tickets and just see what happens.

By the way, I don't think the tickets are available yet. I called the State Theatre and they don't have them. The Rotary club will sell them first and I think that starts in May.

We stayed with Anne's family and caught Antsy's solo show in Frankfort one night and the big show another night. Or something like that.

The truck and trailer both need TLC after the 2-year storage. I'll be working on that as soon as we get settled here. I'm hearing those "need cash now?!" commercials in the back of my head every time I think about it.

I contacted Bob Swope by email recently and he indicated tickets for the Antsy show will be available later this month (May).

As I mentioned previously, this event is a fundraiser for the Elizabethetown Rotary Club. With the funds raised, the Rotary club supports safe drinking water projects in Guatemala. The Rotary club is on their way to Guatemala in early May to inspect existing water installations and install some new water systems. When they return in late May the tickets will go on sale.

Several people have RSVP'd on the rally page. If there's sufficient interest we can get together for a happy hour, breakfast or both. Any interest? If so, I'm guessing happy hour on Friday and breakfast on Saturday or Sunday.

What are your ingredients for goetta? I see several recipes on the web so
I'm curious about yours. All of them sound good. How do you pronounce goetta?

Looking forward to the rally - only two months to go!

Did any of you attend Alumapalooza? Antsy played on Saturday night with a percussionist and with another person playing harmonica on some songs. The show was very good. However, I hope the horn section, backup singer and larger group of band members will be at the E-town show.

I sent an email to Bob Swope to ask him if tickets are available for the E-town show. I'd like to send a check soon so I can get that off my mind.

I received a reply from Bob Swope today - he's the Rotary Club organizer for the Antsy concert in E-town. Tickets will be back from the printer on Monday. Price is $25 each.

I included Bob's email address on the rally sign-up page. Otherwise, send me a PM if you need Bob's mailing address.

Tickets

Got an email from Mr Swope yesterday. Said tickets are still at the printer but should be available this week. Like you, I sure would like to have those tickets in my hand.

Looking forward to a great time in Etown.

HOW DO I MAKE GOETTA?

For those of you who enjoyed this Cincinnati breakfast treat here is Larry’s secret slow cooker recipe.

1 lb. ground beef
1 lb. Tennessee Pride Sage sausage
6 cups of pork broth
2 1/2 cups of pinhead oatmeal
1 large onion sliced
3 bay leaves
3 teaspoons of salt & a pinch of pepper
1/4 lb fatty pork loin

Prepare broth by combining 6 1/2 cups water, 1/4 lb fatty pork loin, salt, pepper, onion and bay leaves. Bring to a boil then let simmer for 20 minutes.
Strain the broth placing in a slow cooker with the 2 1/2 cups of pinhead oats. Stir, cover and cook on high for 1 1/2 hour.
Mix ground beef and pork sausage well in a bowl then add to the oatmeal mix in the slow cooker. Stir well, cover and cook on low for 3 hours. The mixture should be thick enough to form into patties.
Uncover, if not thick enough and cook a little longer, stirring often.

Line several loaf pans with wax paper, place the mixture into the pans to form loafs. Pat the goetta to get a tight consistency then refrigerate. When ready to serve simply slice and fry until golden brown in the skillet.
Genießen Sie!

OOPS! I just noticed a typo on the rally sign-up page (and it may be on the first post of this thread too).

The concert is on Saturday evening July 28. I think everyone figured that out by now even though I listed an incorrect date previously.

Our plan is to arrive on Thursday but we might be there as early as Wednesday. We'll see how that week shapes up.

Whenever you arrive be on the lookout for other Airstreams and say hello. I think there may be a few SOB's attending too. An informal headcount on the rally sign-up page and comments in this thread indicate 10 (or so) people attending.

I like the idea of happy hour on Friday and breakfast on Saturday. If there's sufficient interest we can get together more than that. We'll see how things shape up in the next month.

Danielle and I are definitely planning to visit Swope's Car Museum while we're in town and we'll probably spend most of the day on Saturday at the Cruisin' the Heartland show. It's going to be fun!

Tickets

Got my tickets yesterday. Spoke to Emily at the State Theater, and all is taken care of. Maybe we can get a tour of Pine View Heights.

I spoke to the campground today. The person on the phone indicated we can use the screened-in pavillion if needed. We'll probably be able to meet under the trailer awning if weather permits but it's good to know we have a backup plan.
