Tow mirrors for Chev/Gmc

Anyone have good/bad experience using the factory manual towing mirrors. I have the regular electric ones on my 03 duramax but was thinking of replacing and going with the manual extending ones. I am somewhat hesitant that they will not give you a good enough view for backing up? Other option is the Mckesh, but sure don't like the look, but might have to bite the bullet.

I have the factory electric extending towing mirrors on my '04 2500HD and like them very much. If the manual mirrors are of the same dimension and extension I would think they would be fine.

As I just posted on another thread today, I have the Shefnacker TTT replacement mirrors and just love them. They are a bit pricey, but they are heated, have a big convex spotter mirror, have flat main mirrors for better clearance judgement, and mine have the optional LED clearance and turn signal lights.

The TTT mirrors pull out manually, but adjust and heat with the standard switches. They span 108 1/2" when open which gives a good view, even with a wide body trailer.

There is a review on the Diesel pages. Best $$$ I have spent on the truck. They beat the OEM camper mirrors hands down.

By the way, the wind whistle mentioned in the review has been solved by a minor change to the mirror front plate.

I use McKesh mirrors on my '03 Duramax, and am very happy with what I can see. They ain't pretty, but I don't feel any need to see more than I do now. For sure, I'd recommend the circular wide angle "optional" mirror in addition to the flat surface rectangular ones that McKesh sells. They are easy on and off the truck, and once set up, need no adjustment. I have not had any noise issues.

I ordered the factory camper mirrors option, they are heated and have turn signal lights inside. From the factory they were only $175 extra. I had a local ambulance company break the glass in my drivers side mirror and the cost to replace one was almost $600 (the ambulance paid for the replacement)
I love the mirrors! No problems with backing, only downside is they do stick out a little more than the regular morrors.

Although I have factory tow mirrors on my curent 2004 Dodge 2500, my prior Dodge 2500 did not and I used the Mckesh mirrors on it. Easy on, easy off and an even better view than my current factory mirrors. They are very reasonable to purchase also.

I appreciate the reply. I was thinking the same thing, might be best to just buy the Mckesh. The factory tow mirrors look a heck of a lot better, but I would really like to see a heck of lot better. thanks again, richard

I put a set of Power Vision mirrors on my )2 Avalanche (I think they take the same mirror as the Silverado) www.powervisionmirrors.com . I love them, although they are a little expensive. The look pretty much like stock mirrors except for the rubber extension boot, and they work great for towing. Installation took a couple of hours to run wires for the control switch, but it was not difficult.
