I purchased Rock Tamers after loosing a curb side wing window on my recently restored 69 Sovereign, haven’t towed many miles since installing but fingers crossed they will prevent a repeat incident, Wing Windows are hard to find & $$$$

I installed Rock Tamers as well and I've been pretty pleased. My TV has a 3" lift and I run pretty aggressive tires that can really sling some rocks. Prior to the Tamers, I was getting dings on my Airstream above the rock guards. That doesn't seem to be an issue anymore.

I installed the UltimateFlap UF1004 14 Inch Rear Mud Flap with Stainless Steel Weight that I got from Amazon. I installed these before traveling to Alaska and am pleased that they protected the Airstream.
Previously there were a few little rock dings on the segment protectors which made me think that with some of the road conditions on the trip to Alaska, it would be a good idea to have some protection.

I've been using Rock Tamers for some few years now. They have done a good job for me. FYI, I bought "Airstream" inserts that replaced the "Rock Tamer" inserts.

We have had 'Rock Tamers' from the beginning--in our fifth year and they're holding up very well, with a little bolt tightening periodically. We have front steel guards, so there's protection there as well, but with the accumulated grime on the guard half-way through the season, I'm happy with the purchase. Much easier for end-of-season clean-up too.

Use Dura-flaps on the truck wheels and Rock Tamers; given we have no dings after 54K miles; would suggest they are working well.

Rock Tamers

After saying I don’t need them and then the tires on my F-250 chucked up two nice dents above the windows I bought a set

I’m not sure they stop it all but it must help some

Towtectors for us

Have had the Towtectors for 5 years with our Bambi, many Idaho gravel roads, work great. Only time something got thru was a piece of tire tread, at freeway speeds that just left a skid mark. Continue to use them with our new FC FB25FBT

14 years with Rock Tamers and very pleased. As another said, only a small ding on the AS rock guard but on the street side so likely from a passing vehicle.

$50 for both of these cut from SS and attached with SS fittings

flaps behind the TT wheels?

we see a few gravel roads and are looking for more. I put flaps on my ATV hauler with excellent effect - the annual touch-up of paint behind the axles is much abbreviated.

Has anyone perfected adding flaps behind the Airstream rear tires? Is it worth the trouble? Maybe the bottom rear of the airstream doesn't need it?

pjshier, take a look at Conifer David’s (dbj216 on the Forums) thread “69 Globetrotter Renovation Project” on post #117. He installed mud flaps on the AS. Why not? Don’t see why it wouldn’t be helpful. Good luck.

That's the bracket that comes with the Rock Tamers.

I misunderstood your post. I thought you had made the mud flaps. On re-reading, I see you made the Airstream logos. Sorry.

Panels vs Rock Tamers

That’s was my past opinion.

Have you priced two upper radius Airsteam panels with matching right left rock dings I took out the right and left panel on our first trip. Made me sick. I was that guy that said no way am I paying for those then the
Mrs said you should have bought them.

I notice no noticeable fuel penalties.

Used Rock Tamers fir a year until I grew tired if banging my shins/knees into them and the weight they add to the receiver if/when I wanted to remove it.

I went with Duraflap mudflaps. Had them on previous trucks over the years and they work for us. I opted to get a set if the extra long rears just in case but have yet to install them or gave found a reason to. Perhaps in 2025 when the CN border opens.
