If you got the 23A6v1964 off a small plate at the front of the trailer, that is your VIN. The plate has weight rating, date of manufacture, and serial number, and is behind the propane tanks.

The really, really, official VIN is on the underside of the tongue frame rail (under the propane tanks) probably on the curb side. It may be paint filled or quite rusty, but it is there. May take a rotary wire brush to bring it out. It should be the same # you have already found.
1) There should be a VIN tag riveted to the front of the trailer (possibly road side lower).
2) There should be a VIN number stamped on trailer tongue (A-frame); on top; curb side, near the body. You may need a wire brush to remove paint and rust.
