Photos, Forum Web Space, and Account Upgrades...

3 points regarding this issue:
  1. Photos are an integral component of sharing Airstream knowledge.
2. When it comes down to a spacial web crunch, the administrators should also take a look at how much the word association games take up in our web space (yes, I know that photos take up a lot more space than words & these games help members "feel a part of the community".

3. For those of you who post photos or spend a significant part of your daily web browsing time here, don’t you think it would be appropriate for you to upgrade your membership? The minimum donation is only $20/yr.! If you spend only 1 hr./wk., the cost to show your support is less than $0.38 per week. (BTW, you don’t need to sign up for Pay Pal in advance to do this… it is just part of the one time payment process when upgrading).

I wasn't concerned about this yet as I've kept an eye on the upload status bar where you do attachments. Last look I'd used up about a third of my space according to that indicator.

Just checked to be sure and it's now showing all red - or NO space left - how'd that happen...??????

No, actually, I don't. But thanks for the advice.

If this were the only forum I visit or contribute to, I might be willing to make a small, one time donation. But $20/yr, ongoing, sounds more like a subscription.

I think it used to be 50MB, now it's 5MB. Buy a golden rivet and all your worries go away. The trailer looks shinier now, too!

Something has changed!!

2 weeks ago I went camping, when I left I had about 2/3 of the "manage attachments" use bar in the red, around 30 mb. When I returned and tried to post on a thread the bar was all red. No more for me. 30 mb is more than 5 mb even for a chap that was public schooled. So did someone pay 20 bucks for me? and then I got shut off? or was the "quota" reduced?
From reading other posts , others have had the same experience.
Then I discovered the reviews tab at the top of the page. "I REALLY LIKE this feature! It provides a quick way to compare products. How much space is allotted per user for this area?
So keep tweaking the system, it's getting better, the members still need to figure out things for themselves tho. This site has helped with my use of the "clone".
And I'm not bi---in about things, just stating the facts as they have happened to me.
This is a great site, keep tweakin it!
Respectfully Submitted DG

If it was 50 and changed to 5 - does anyone know why? Was there a heads up that I missed......

No changes were made, the settings have been the same for years. Don't forget everyone gets 100MB of space in the photo gallery also.

Based on your feedback here (and the contributions of the Supporting Members) I have doubled the limit to 10MB for attachments in the forum discussions. The goal is not to limit you all from being able to post in order to get you to upgrade your account. Upgrades are more like a way of saying thank you and in exchange we remove the limits (plus you get a couple of really cool AIR stickers).

I understand why photos may be integral to the threads they are posted in and why deleting them would not be a good idea. Perhaps one of the features such as the pbase online gallery offers could be incorporated to help those reaching their maximum storage to continue posting. A feature to recompress the originals could be made available and free up space to allow future posting on those accounts.

so, let me get this straight... in addition to my golden rivet, i can get unlimited attached pics, 100MB of pics in my photo album (but no way to quickly move the thread-attached pics TO my photo album), a bigger avatar, double the message space, AND stickers?

propper!
