NEWBIE Question: What to Look For???

G'day all:

I found a 1965 Tradewind parked in someone's yard that is for sale. Asking price is $3,000.00. It hasn't been on the road for years. I am interested mainly to use as a command post for an event but might be interested in restoring it.

I no nothing whatsoever about trailers except that the Airstreams are unquestionably the the finest ever built. I need to know what to look for when evaluating one, pitfalls, potential trouble areas such as things that may require work and expenditure of $$$ to make it roadworthy and safe.

Best regards,

W1RC

It will need new tires because of their age regardless of how they appear at $150+- each. Good chance it needs new axles at $400- $800 per axle. Any soft spots in the floor? any separation between the floor and body? Do all the appliances work? You can find specific information on these subjects if you do individual searches. Assume you will spend more money to get it rolling than you assume. At least $3000 more than you bought her to get her rollin and several times that to get her really nice.

Now that you have purchased your Airstream - it will be much easier to purchase a tow vehicle. Best of success.
