If there’s any wood at all left fix it with an epoxy. Incredibly faster. Easier. And probably less expensive. Especially if your time is worth anything.

I wouldn't take the time to lock and unlock them. Put them on and take a little tug on the trailer and you'll see how easy it is they pop right off. Don't ask me how I know.
