Ever since we found these things, my feeling has been that the Easy Start will extend the compressor life; just listen and feel to the compressor start after installation. Not to mention the advanced protection. In for a penny...put them on both.

Curious what this does to the 3 year warranty? I was told by Colonial that adding an Easy Start will void the warranty of the A/C so we opted out of doing it prior to pick up if our new 2019 Classic.

Thoughts?

By the way...totally agree with the $100 per hour rule and the effort to climb up on the roof, etc. etc.

Correct, except the price for each EZ Start is $274 (down from $300) and, there is an installation kit that is another $9.89. Sounds like a really good idea especially as it may extend the life of the compressor. I plan to get one - but wish we had a second AC as it is still too warm in the bedroom of our 34 footer and would certainly then get a second EZ Start. As we have a Honda 2000 I am also going to get the generator bonding plug for $9.89.
Progressive Industries used to sell something similar but for unknown reasons no longer have them. May be a good idea to pre-order the EZ Start as I heard they ran out of them in Salem.

FWIW the following is an excerpt from the Micro Air website under warranty section:

If, during the air conditioning manufacturer’s warranty period, your air conditioner experiences any compressor motor failure not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty and caused by the EasyStart 364, Micro-Air will, at its option, repair or replace your compressor motor or rooftop air conditioning unit.

The warranty will only be effective during the original manufacturer-supplied warranty period for the air conditioner and shall not exceed the period of the Micro-Air two-year limited warranty. The remedies of repair or full replacement at Micro-Air’s discretion, shall be the sole remedies for any warranty claim. Replacements will be made with the same or comparable compressor motor or an entire unit of equal BTU capacity. The Purchaser must notify Micro-Air of any defect or malfunction in writing delivered by overnight delivery or certified mail and received within the warranty period in order to secure repair or replacement of the product. The Purchaser must return the damaged air conditioning unit to Micro-Air or its agent at the Purchaser’s expense so that it is received within one day of the expiration of the warranty period.

What does the generator bonding plug do?

Thanks!

There is no downside to having an EasyStart on both AC units. It is just a matter of one's budget and how you want to allocate your funds.

Labor

I would negotiate the labor rate.

Micro-Air if at Hershey or scheduled RV shows often sell at a factory fair price and include the install if your Trailer is there.

Airstream has to pay their tech’s but I would still ask. Seems like $600 for both not each?

Ours was not that much at our Airstream dealer with a brand new install.

It’s used to connect the neutral and ground on inverter generators so your EMS doesn’t spit an error for floating neutral.

It can be worse!

I contacted AS of Las Vegas and they wanted $750 installed so I guess the JC is not as bad as one might think!

Warranty voided???

By chance did you verify the Easy-start will not void the AC manufacturers warranty? I had heard that the warranty is voided by this modification. I think it is a good modification but i am waiting until my warranty expires to install it. I would love to see confirmation the mfgr will continue warranty after this modification. Thanks

On MicroAir website they state that the install should not affect manufacturers warranty. They also state that if you have a problem deemed to be caused by their system they will repair or replace your unit.

The voiding the warranty myth. Federal law states that for a warranty claim to be denied by the manufacturer they would need to prove that the third party product contributed/caused the issue. So if the MicroAir should explode or surge 1000volts through the system then Dometic isn't going to pay a warranty claim. If the fan motor dies or the system springs a leak of the compressor gas they would be on the hook for the repair if it is covered under warranty.

The 62nd WBCCI International Rally (for Airstreams) is being held July 20-27, 2019, in Doswell, Virgina. There will be LOTS of vendors exhibiting there along with all the other fun things to do.
As suggested, if you are going to be there, it would be an excellent idea to contact MicroAire and get on their list for installs (to at least be sure they have enough EasyStarts to accommodate you).

MicroAir also offers a 'DoubleDown' warranty for $25. It removed the 'at their option' and makes it clear that they will cover AC warranty issues if Dometic does not becuase the Easy Start was added. Getting 2 installed in Doswell. Added the DoubleDown on both. Cheap insurance and removed any 'warranty worries'.

Interestingly enough we bought our 2019 30' and the salesman did not know what they were and stated adding them would void the warranty after checking in with others at the dealership.

I'm almost 72 and my wife is almost 69. We installed an way start. I just had back surgery so we looked at the schematic that matched our 25 year old penguin 1. She climbed up on to the roof and I stood on the ladder. She did the wiring and connections. I sort of supervised. We finished and took a trip to a state park where we did our 5 restarts. No problems at all.

Hi, I live in Salem, Oregon. I did not attend the rally. I live six miles from the Fairgrounds. Micro-Air came to my house and installed my unit for free. $300.00 labor each is outrages.

JUST DO IT!! It takes more than 15 minutes to install. And they'll do it right since JC installs a lot of them....

If you don't feel comfortable doing it, then yeah, pay the money. I did.

You didn't buy an AS being you were going to cheap.

Never understood people using the word cheap when they own an AS.

I'm not sure what your second sentence means but I just thought it would be a good idea to have it done while it's at the factory. Paying a reasonable price for installation is ok by mean, I just wasn't sure what was reasonable.
