Yes the poppy is dying. In fact it has died.

If the smell is on the outside of the trailer I would not use it again on gas for fear of fire.

HowieE is correct. Your evaporator has been compromised and ANY use is a fire hazard; gas or electric!

Well, it's dead but don't bury it. If the box is solid and the control board is okay, there are lots of folks that will sell you a rebuilt cooling unit for about half what a new unit would cost.

My wife and I swapped out the cooling unit in our RM2800 five years ago for about $450 bucks and it has soldiered along splendidly even though we half time and it gets a lot of use.

We full-time in our wonderful AS so now I have a Coleman Xtreme Ice chest til Monday to research someone in the Flagstaff area to help us.

We love it but don't want to die in it..at least not today. Frig is off.

Thanks for saving us from a fire!

If you have average or better mechanical skills, this place is one of a few that can supply new innards and detailed instructions on how to install it. The install really isn't rocket surgery...

RV Cooling Unit Warehouse

Replacing the cooling unit is about half the price of a new refer.

If you are still at a lose on Monday you might contact RV Parts Express - RV Parts, RV Accessories, Recreational Vehicle, Inverter, Converter, Camping, Motorhome, 5th Wheel, Travel Trailer, RV Repair Parts and ask if they have a trained rep. in or near Flagstaff.

On the road an outright purchase will be costly a replacement unit may be worth the wait.

Since we a full-timing we are going to replace it. Think we can reuse our wood panels.

Odds may not be good on using the panels.
I had heavy wood panels on my Dometic and after the frig. door fell off twice and the freezer door once I did not attempt to use them when I replaced my frig. on the road. Milk and ice cream make a mess on the rug.
The hinge pins are not the greatest design and a good bounce will dislodge them.

In any event, there is value in your old refer; someone may need one to be able to get their unit operational...

Well..it is ordered. Will take 5 working days to come in but we take our lovely time traveling anyway. $1600 for Dometic 3way installed and reusing the wood panels...same frig just new. We have not had any door problems YET. Hope we will not.

Thanks for the help and keeping us safe once again!
