Thumbs up A new "cover" for our airstream

Moved into our new home in beautiful Oconee County SC. We built on a small lot that backs up to a COE wooded buffer and Lake Hartwell. We were able to incorporate a 3rd garage bay to fit our 25' FC.

Many anxious moments over the past year of construction, i.e.
would the airstream make it up the drive way with bottoming out the bumber or hitch? - check !
would the garage door be wide enough? - check!
would the garage door be tall enough when backing up the steep incline? - check!
would the bay be long enough? - check!

Today is our maiden docking into the garage. Speaking of docks, we get our new dock on the Lake July 3rd.

Life is good in Upstate SC!

New pictures for the bathroom! These are photos mounted on foam and are very lightweight. Adhered with removable foam-backed velcro - hopefully, they'll stay put rattling down the road.

Impressed! That is EXACTLY what I want to do if we ever move near our kids and build! Did you have it plumbed for water and sewer? I’d love to have the option of using it as an extra bedroom if all the family comes.

Yes, I agree SC is a great state. I have worked with several of your good folks on Southern Baptist Disaster Relief deployments.

Ealmasey,

Very nicely done I like the connection points. Are those gray things foam blocks?

A heads up for you. You are about to discover the same problem I did.

I used the narrow Elfa system in my 2022 globetrotter 27fb twin in a similar setup.

I found out the hard way that the wardrobe floor cannot support any weight. The left and right halves of the wardrobe are built as separate modules. This includes the 3/4" thick Plywood floor. So you get a seam down the middle of the floorboards with a thin strip of wood underneath to span the seam. This strip of wood uses exactly 1 screw in the rear of the wardrobe floor to support the seam.

Needless to say, if you put any weight on the wardrobe floor, it rips the single screw out of the rear and the rear of wardrobe floor collapses, rendering the Elfa shelves useless.

I made a temporary hack on my last trip to fix this structural weakness until I can implement a more robust, permanent reinforcement.

See the photos below for the image of the boards I cut and wedged into place vertically between the wardrobe floor and the composite subfloor. A couple of photos of the drawer system installation and custom side support spacers are also included.

I purchased a cheap mitre box + mitre saw from home depot in New Mexico for $12 along with a 1"x3" board that I cut up to make the vertical supports. Click image for larger version

Hi, I bought and installed a Shower Thermometer. I bought one for my house first because my Delta faucet controls are too touchy. I like how it works so well that I now have one in my trailer. [Amazon about $18.00]

The first two pictures show my house installation.

The last two pictures show my trailer installation.

Yes – the spacers to hold it the right distance from the wall are EVA foam blocks.

This is part of the reason the shelves are anchored the way they are, with thick cable ties going to eight separate heavy duty tie-downs – to take up some of the weight and reduce strain on the floor. Hopefully that plus being judicious about what we put in the drawers will be enough to avoid issues.

But thank you for the heads-up and photos of your fix. I may pursue that anyway even if we don't have problems, just as a belt-and-suspenders measure.

What Did You Get For Your Trailer Today?

Picked up my 27FB from Ultimate Airstreams where they installed the Grand Lounge, cabinet, and converted the hanging closets to drawers. It looks fantastic and adds a ton of storage, plus the layout is much more comfortable. First class experience.

I’ll do a longer write up but here’s a few pics:

What Did You Get For Your Trailer Today?

I added a Bose Solo II sound bar for the front tv. Costco has these at $199 and it greatly improves dialogue. The sound is not as dynamic as a larger sound bar (like their larger $450 model or Sonos) but at its price point is does what I need and is not super heavy or large. Mounted to the TV using a $10 WALI kit from Amazon. It connects to the tv using a provided optical cable, leaving the spare HDMI slot for my Roku.
