Very sorry to hear about your loss!

That is awful! I hope they find it.

To the forum, I am new here. Just recently bought my grandparent's 1980 caravelle (waiting to ship it still). Is theft a common problem? I see posts about gps tracking. Are alarms installed on airstreams? Any other theft deterrent options? Is this usually just an issue during storage? I plan on storing in locked facility. Hopefully, this hasn't happened to someone while they were traveling!

theft

We keep our Bambi in a controlled access storage park, under 3-sided trailer barn. No problems to date.
I would never leave my trailer on some unattended land or other open setting, even with special locks, etc. There are too many low lifes out there who can figure a way to steal anything.

Like most things, location, location, location. Not just where you are but who else is around and what are their abilities to turn your stuff into drug stuff. Here they don't have trucks. They have broken down compacts with fancy wheels. They kick down the door and take your stuff. Some don't even care if you are home or not. "Officials" have been keeping it quiet. Most of these crews use the Interstate and anyone within a quarter tank of gas from a "city" is a potential victim.

The best I've come up with is hot wiring the brakes. If the trailer moves the brakes come on full.

Good luck and happy hunting.

Has anyone actually bought or installed a GPS Unit?

This is a terrible situation...I am soo sorry for your loss.

I was wondering has anyone actually bought or installed a GPS system in their AS. I went on line after reading this story the "Zoom Bak" looks like a good unit.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Many thanks,

Lin.

This is terrible...Did you have it locked? Was it on your land or a storage facility?
Looks like we'll all have to beef up our security measures...

Looks like Texas is the hotbed for Airstream theft. We all need to be vigilant though, no matter where we live.

Sorry about your loss. I know that you are just sick about it. I don't know what I would do. All these thefts are just scarry. Lets see, that is at least 3 70's vintage trailers stolen in Texas recently. Does this mean there is a serial Airstream thief out there going after mid seventies Airstream trailers?

The thefts are a terrible thing. I do hope that everyone is well insured and can recover from the losses.

This makes five 70's trailers stolen just since I started posting in June . . . all from Texas. If I were a detective, I'd start out by looking at a few poster's ISP numbers . . .

Not that I think there's anything fishy about these stories.

You should start a new thread with pictures of your trailer, the serial number, licence plate number, and any identifying information you can provide.

Also, it might be worth contacting the local newspaper(s) and tell them there has been a rash of thefts this year, based on one of the other posts here. They may look in to it and at least put pressure on the police. Wow, 5 swiped since June that we know of, in Texas alone. That is a huge number when you think about it.

So sorry about your loss. I was just thinking, did anyone else notice that the Google maps have been recently updated? Are the crooks using this resource to find AS's?
