Maggie,
the main side dish for possum bog is bread.
Will your crew have any for the Friday night banquet?

I can have a loaf ready, don't know about Gary or anyone else, but 100+ people is a lot of bread.
I have done biscuits in the DO in the past.....best when I am clear what time we are doing dinner .....and can always do that again.
I had also thought of simply doing garlic bread.....a favorite bread of we Yankees, don't know for sure how it sits with Southerners.
I like to do garlic bread with fresh garlic, cooked and mashed up in butter and olive oil....spread on the slices, wrap it all in foil and heat.
I'm flexible, and can do whatever y'all want.

Any and all will be fine Maggie. Ya know, if we southerners love grits, we will darn sure eat anything that doesn't eat us first.
Down here, in all the back road BBQ/hash shacks, a loaf of plain ole white bread is on every table.

Could also do the same hot bread, minus the garlic.
A couple of loaves of french or italian bread, sliced and coated with butter, wrapped in foil and heated up....preferably on a wood fire????
I can plan on a loaf of DO bread, will have simpler things along that are easier to feed a crowd with.

Don't overload yourself Maggie, there will be plenty of bread contributions.
I know of only one man that could feed a large crowd with 1 loaf of bread.

I won't.
I'll do a DO loaf, maybe some Yankee-style garlic bread. Will have to see how the mood strikes me.
So looking forward to seeing everyone. Kind of feels like going home.

Thank you, Maggie.
I found a basic no knead bread recipe and will use it. I have never baked bread successfully. My mother was a baker extraordinaire. Unfortunately, I did not inherit that gene.

You know, it's really just about practice and getting certain things right....like any other learning curve.
Any bread recipe will do, we will adjust charcoal numbers to suit the temps needed.
I don't know what a vegan loaf entails, so will leave all of those bits to you.

Folks,
Pretty darn sure that we'll be having a Dutch Oven demonstration on Saturday morning. We have Jonathan and Maggie that will be demonstrating and I'll offer my efforts too. Now as Maggie and John L. have noted, we can't make enough for all but that's the incentive to hang around and be at the right place at the right time or its crumbs for you.
If you have a DO and are curious, bring it. Ready to buy one? MoparJohn broke in a new one last year and maybe an hour later 1st loaf.
Weather permitting, hopefully we can demonstrate in the common area and maybe with a bit of help we can get Jonathan to setup his camp kitchen.
Good eats is a big part of having fun while camping and sharing and the DO does a great job of that.
The Dutch Oven is a part of camping and outdoor cooking for as long as all have existed. They are versatile but do need a basic understanding how to care for them and how to use them.
Got a question, post it.
Gary

This will be the first adventure for my newly purchased DO. Figure I best break it in the right way. :-)

Thursday night is Hot Dog Banquet night. Heck, just about anything will do. We have the dogs, some chips, chili and some condiments. Maybe a few buns, or slaw,
or pasta, or desert, or single malt, whatever you have to throw in there. Everything goes with hot dogs.

Saturday morning seminars 10am-12pm
We have several seminars planned for Sat am. They will be short, informal and hopefully helpful. We tried to vary the topics and stagger the times. If you see something you like just bring a chair and a cup of coffee.
Remember the one and only rule: nothing is required except that you enjoy yourself.
10am-11am
D.O. COOKING
Hosted by GCinSC2 Gary, Maggie H, and Chillpoints Jon. This is a hot topic. Held in the main arena, they will be discussing and demonstrating Dutch Oven Cooking and sharing recipes. If you have a new piece of cast iron, or are contemplating purchasing some, this is the place to be.
POLISHING
Hosted by Roadrunner Bob. Gather at Bob and Linda's trailer, site #61. This is an encore performance by Bob, sharing the tools, tips, and techniques for polishing to a mirror shine. If you have a vintage trailer, come see how it is done.
11am-12pm
TAKE CARE OF YOUR TANKS, & GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR AIRSTREAM
Hosted by yours truly at the log benches behind site #52. A discussion on taking care of your tanks, self containment and traveling, as well as Airstream living.
ALL DAY LONG
Don't forget that there will be help available if you have a minor maintenance or equipment issue. There will be some extra tools available that may facilitate
a repair or adjustment.

In response to WAY too many complaints about NOT doing a rerun of the famous Italian Meringue Cake at the last get together, I have decided to acquiesce and make this dessert next week. In order to avoid the stampede that occurred the last time I did this, I am going to do sheet cake rather than layers. All of you who are on diets are just going to suffer! I am making this dessert primarily to celebrate Maggie's return. (Oh, I really like it as well!)

My plan for the DO seminar is to go ahead and bake a loaf of the bread during that time, so that anyone who is wanting to do this can watch without having to deal with their own at the same time.
We can do loaves as a group afterward, or a bit later in the day as a group (or individually) if some want to sit with Big John and hear what wisdom he has to impart.
This particular bread has some wiggle room, in terms of when to bake.
If you have anything you want to try, there will be plenty of help throughout the weekend.
I have a temp/briquettes# chart from Lodge with me on the IPad (can't get it to copy), so that newbies can plan a bit if they want.

"I will be making six of them"
is what I was hoping that I would read.
But a full size sheet cake would be good too ( 18" x 24").
(or whatever you want to contribute to our gluttony).
Thanks, Barry.
(from someone who did not get even a morsel from the last one, wahhhh, wahhhh ... queue the small violins...).

We're a little late in getting in on this, but are there any sites still available? I checked with the park's reservation area and it looked as tho they're booked up, but I thought maybe someone knew of an extra one or something.
Thanks.
