What kind of mileage should a person expect with a 2016 F150 3.5 EcoBoost and 30 ft. FC, driving reasonably around the country?
|
Well I will chime in but not with a 30' or around the country info.- yet. I get, so far, the same as my 4.6L 3V '09 Ford towing. It had the same transmission and final drive 3.55--12mpg on flat ground @65mph. I cannot wait to get more towing time and experience with hills. I KNOW the '15 3.5EB is definitely more powerful. I use mine as my daily driver. In town I am getting 2mpg better mileage and highway so far, varied results from 2-4 mpg better than my 2009 F-150 not towing. My '09 had the trailer tow package instead of max tow. It was fine for my 980 tongue but with a 1540# payload. Personal towing experience is limited at this point. I have noticed that the engine is sensitive to pedal action. Pumping gas, accelerating, etc greatly impact mileage comparatively speaking. Also, I am learning to try and stay under 2000 rpm when taking off from a stop. It seems to make a big difference. The amazing thing is though, when I need power and slam it, it is as if the truck lifts up and darts especially in sport mode- so different from the other truck.

Hi Mike,
To answer your question - a 25'FB; probably a Flying Cloud. That is the plan at any rate. That is an altogether separate search effort since it will be second-hand and date back as far as 2006 vintage. I suspect finding the TV will be easier.

Anyone have towing experience with 2015-16 5.0? We have a FC25twin on order and TV is a 2015 Supercab 4X4 Lariat with 5.0, 3.31 with std trailer tow package. The manual says its payload is 2230, but the sticker on the door says 2031 lbs. Tow capacity is 9100 lbs. 5.0 has less tow capacity compared to 3.5 EB, but maybe better payload. Live in NW GA Mtns so most miles are up and down but showing 17.8 mpg with less than 2200 miles so far unloaded. Any tips and info appreciated. Thanks!

Christopher B,
I suspect that the truck you are looking at would be fine for towing a 25'. Do check the payload sticker, though, as many owners of the 25' trailers report their tongue weights, when loaded to camp, are several hundred pounds heavier than advertised.

Chris,
I have the 3.5 w. 6.5' bed, HD Payload, Max Tow and 3:73 axle. My brother has the same truck only with the std. tow package and 3:31 rear end. He has a SOB under 6K pounds and I am pulling around 7.5K pounds (2008 27FB Classic Ltd). I usually get 1-3MPG better than he does on the same roads. I believe the 3:73 ratio is much better if you tow anything at all. So far I am extremely happy with the truck's performance.
The very first trip I pulled the Raton Pass in New Mexico at 60 mph IN CRUISE. It did downshift to 4th gear, but never slowed down.
Good luck finding your new truck.

f-150
Just completed a 2120 mile trip to Moab with a 23D and three dirt bikes in the back. 10.8 mpg 30% better than the same trip last year with my Nash trailer. Airstreams claims are legitimate.
Same truck as in thread, 2015 6.5.' ecoboost, max tow, four wheel drive four door.

FOUND it
Thanks to all for the guidance. I passed on that F-150 w/ the 3.31 axle ratio. Then I found the perfect one (for me). Has Ecoboost, 3.73 locking, with Max Tow.
Low mileage 2014. Downside: It's in Florida waiting for a transporter and I'm in NW Washington. Could I have found one further from me?! Isn't it amazing? Money and the internet make just about anything possible. The truck in this photo looks like mine but the side mirrors don't reflect the max tow package. It should be here in a couple of weeks. NOW the AS search begins. I may delay that search until after the prime summer camping season concludes and more units come up for sale on the used market.
