Hello, our inside handle on the 1976 AS we own will not work. It is like the one in your pictures. I need to know if there is a spring that pulls the lock back to open the door. The shaft at the end of the inside handle has nothing that if attaches to. We are thinking when it broke, the spring or whatever made it work fell down inside the door. The outside lock works great and still locks. Once you close the door from the inside you cannot get out.
Bnewsum: chances are it is just a sheared off roll pin
Removal of the lock assembly from the door will be required.
ODM has pics on their web site. You can get a new roll pin at an auto parts store.
Does anyone know a current or different lock that is compatible with the original lock found in a 1971 Airstream Safari? I bought our airstream without a lock on it and I am having trouble finding the original KT lock (380193). I am interested in replacing the entire system with something compatible.
Unless you are a purist and want to keep every thing like the original.
You could patch the hole in the door.
Then install one of the Milenco lock mechanisms.
Look for Dometic/Milenco rv locks on the net.
There was a time when Inland RV sold a kit to install a lock very similar to those used on rv's today. It also used a patch to cover the hole in the door.
The Milenco lock installs on the body of the trailer not the door.
Another advantage to the Milenco is the door won't fly open going down the road. When locked.
I have a 1970 sovereign, someone recently tried to break in through the door and now I cannot open the door I have tried from both outside the trailer and inside after crawling in through a window. does anyone have any advice on how i can get in without destroying anything? thank you in advance
Rob
