1968 Tradewind. Door handle was always a little dicey. I had a system though, you lined up the handle, pressed in, had to "feel" the barrel line up and voila, the lock worked fine. No problems for two years.
1) Lesson one, don't let others borrow your airstream.
Handle was all jacked up and hinged on rotating and user said he "had a hell of a time" trying to unlock it. Well, now it no longer locks.
When I finally get the barrel and key lined up (much more difficult then previously) when I do turn the key it just pops open the unlocked door. I can no longer get the handle to the locked position.
I took everything apart and was checking the interior of the handle and lock. No clue what I'm looking for. Tightened and put back, handle now turns fine and functions in terms of open and close.... with the exception of locking.
A) Can I buy just the barrel and are these an easy enough fix?
B) Please tell me I can keep the original handle hardware and just replace the barrel. Unless there is something else I should take apart and look at before buying replacements.
Thanks
Marek
