I remember my first encounter with a pay shower at a camp ground in the Wisconsin Dells during our pop-up camper days. I walked to the shower house and found that it costed a quarter. I dug in the pocket and found one.
Okay the quarter went in and here came the water. I had it full on hot and I think the water heater wasn't in the building itself. Well it eventually got hot, I stepped in and soaped up. I'm sure you all know what happened next. Clunk! And I had no more money.
I've also been at campgrounds where kids have left the showers on and exhausted the tanks. So after those learning experiences I made sure that my travel trailers all had showers and have used them!

Going on our first camping trip this weekend. Water heater doesn't work. I can't afford a new Atwood. I'm thinking about a point of use water heater. Anyway, we will be using the campground showers for a while. Do they really cost money??

Generally, the showers at campgrounds are included in the the site fee.

Colorado state parks charge for showers in addition to anything else they can think of. You also pay entry fee plus camping fee.

Of course. It's one of the wonderful luxuries of having an Airstream and not a tent.

In our 800+ nights of camping in Lucy, I have not run into a single pay shower at a campground. Even though I generally don't use the CG shower, I usually check out their facilities for future reference.

Shower tokens or quarters are required for showers in our favorite campgrounds in Southern California: South Carlsbad State Beach, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and Agua Caliente County Park.
South Carlsbad State Beach Campground has no hookups, and I don't mind paying for the token to enjoy a leisurely hot shower, while not using up my fresh water or filing the gray water tank. (I had enough "Navy showers" aboard Navy ships!)
I actually enjoy a morning hike, then a relaxing noon time shower while the temperatures are mild and the showers are readily available.

The shower is my favorite part of the Sovereign. I LOVE it & hope to never go in a campground shower ever again! No foreign germs, no sand, and best of all, HOT water.

When I started this thread I didn't think it would be so popular. I sure have learned a lot after getting it started. We will be using ALL of our AS facilities (after we take delivery - hopefully tomorrow!). Brian, thanks for the info on the shower head, Becky saw that and immediately said "We are going to get one of those!". Everyone, thanks for all of the info and the laughs.

Yellow paper goes into the waste can. Brown paper goes into the tank. Just a way to minimize the amount of paper in the tank.

I keep a spray bottle of any one of the shower cleaners hanging on the end of the towel bar in the shower. The trigger makes a hook to keep it there; it has never fallen off in many trips. A bottle will last practically forever. My shower looks like new and has never been wiped down. A few spritzes with the bottle does the trick.

Scott, this we just don't understand some owners. We use our Airstream's full facilities no matter if the campground has nice amenities or not. Even used the shower in our 1997 B-190 Van when we had. We recently camped our in Merc Sprinter seated van with some of the seats removed. We reluctantly used campground showers, but we carried a porta potty and used it.
We run into this mentality in the big Class A diesel world, where owners will proclaim they never use the bathroom and surely don't cook in the coach.
When we travel, we use the entire Airstream, kitchen, shower, potty and all with or without hookups.
Go for it, you paid for it, use it and be happy.

I don't know about Maine. Most showers in RV parks and state parks that we've been to don't charge a fee. We've run into a few locations where you have to pay, most of these have been at National Parks such as Yellowstone. But you get long hot showers for a set fee. The one in Glacier NP is a coin feed. These type aren't so good. So it really depends on where you're going as to whether there will be a shower fee.

The highest price we've seen for a shower was at the truck stop at Coldfoot, Alaska. In 2002 it was $10. I don't know what it is now. This is north of the Arctic Circle and at the southern side of the Brooks Range. Everything is expensive there and in 2002 we were camping in a tent nearby. The shower was very small and I didn't trust it's cleanliness and didn't want to touch the walls. But it would go as long as I wanted, which wasn't very long because it was not an enjoyable place. I didn't want to pay that much, but my wife didn't allow me that choice.
