TPMS - sensors life
About to install a TPMS on our 2015 27FB FC. Read that each sensors transmit a wireless signal back every 7 Sec. How long do these sensors last? Do AS owners remove them while camping or when in storage to save the lives of the batteries?

Mine are about 3 years old. For the first year I never removed the sensors. After discussing with the TST rep I now remove them when at home. Still on the original batteries. I have a spare set for the day they crap out.

Hi AWCHIEF,
What was the reason for removing when home? I am under the impression that they go to sleep and wake up once moving. When I first turn on the display for my set I don't get a signal until we start moving - or was my timing just perfect from when turning on and getting connected.

Any time they sense pressure they are working. It takes a few minutes for the dash unit to link with them. As soon as communications are established, you will get a readout. I don't think I needed it but I installed a remote transmitter and it blinks all the time, indicating the it is receiving signals from the sensors, even when parked.

I have the internal Dill TPMS same as most cars. Will last 7-8 years. I highly recommend the Dill Trailer TPMS - no issues with valve stems or theft. Tire rack sells these $279 for everything. http://www.tirerack.com/tpms/detail....D=2179&ID=2179

I think the life expectancy for the sensors is 5-7 years, about the same as the life of the tires.
When you get new tires, get new sensors.

I have a set of pressure pro sensors that I put on a trailer in 2007. They finally failed this past February. That's about 9 years. Same quote of battery life, 5-7 years. I think each one cost about $40 to replace. They stay on the trailer all year long.

I found out that running higher tire pressure then needed it tends to rattle them apart ,,,where running lower pressure they tend to last longer.. lost track of the number I replaced in 50k miles and always fail when I ran max pressure.

I use the TST 507SE. I put them on my truck and AS. I won't go into details here as I'm doing this from my phone, bus let's say I have not found then that useful. PM me if you'd like to know more. That said watching the monitor on trips gives me peace of mind. The sensors are supposed to last about 5 years and the batteries are replaceable. I've had mine since February 2014. In July my monitor quite working right. The control buttons are not functioning. I just sent TST an email yesterday. I'll probably call them on Monday and see what my options are. I'm hoping they'll replace it.

Long story very short; It has cost me over $1200 to say:
Forget 'N'Vision' TPMs. I did get a partial refund, of $480 on one set, but the other is out of warranty.
I can only tell 'Engineering' to "go back to the drawing board"!
( having said that, I'm mindful of the saying:"You can always tell an Engineer, but you can't tell them anything!")

Chief, did you epoxy them for easy on/off without the tool? Or do you use the tool each time?

Never heard of doing that. It would defeat the security requirement for using the tool.

Right on, Chief. The folks at TST told me that a number of their customers do it because it makes them much easier to remove, which thereby makes it less burdensome to remove, which ultimately increases security and battery life. Not that they were encouraging the practice, but that it wasn't a problem because their ultimately disposable units. I haven't done it to mine yet, but wondered what others that have, thought about the practice...
