New A/C ran for 5 min - dead?

Brand new Dometic 15K BTU air conditioner (not heat hump). It ran for about 5 min, then shutoff. Thermostat is still on, and I checked all the breakers. What could be the problem?

Yep, and it is the breaker. It didn't looked tripped, but it was. Guess I need to upgrade.

Oh, good! My daughter has a penguin low profile & had tons of problems with it from straight out of the box. I'm glad you don't have all the issues she did! Happy camping!

I had to replace several of the breakers in my '77 Excella rear bath model because they would trip every once in awhile for no apparent reason. It seemed to solve the problem.

Ok, so I figured out (after using the search) that I was using the wrong gauge extension cord. Once I plugged in, the A/C rand fine for several hours. I left, came back, and the entire system is off -- including the digital thermostat. All the breakers were fine. I am going to investigate tonight, but any thoughts on what I should check? 12V fuse for the thermostat, maybe?

Be sure the 12v is working, and check the RJ11 connections for the thermostat. The RJ11 jack isn't really tough enough mechanically for that application but they use it anyway.

RJ 11 connectors

When my 05 was brand new the ac stopped working, as Jammer said the RJ11 connectors are suspect. They normally "click" in place however these just kinda push in. In my case it mine just was not pushed in enough. I added a layer of heat shrink to it and it is good now, has not come off in 5 years.

If you have symptoms that are told of in this thread, you need to call Dometic:

http://www.airforums.com/forums/f427...ing-67933.html

I just updated it for the forum & others who may run across problems with their Penguin Low Profile a/c.

Checked the RJ11 connections, and they are in place. Looked in my 12V fuse panel and no fuses are out. Would the A/C unit itself have a fuse?
